For anyone on the market for cheap suits, I took a flyer on one of these 89 dollar numbers on eBay

For 89 bucks, I figured why not, and the reviews seemed near uniformly positive.

I haven't worn it yet, but it came in today, and I took it up to the tailor to get it hemmed etc.

Holy smokes did this exceed my expectations. The suit just feels expensive. It's heavy wool, and feels like great quality. The inside of the jacket is just great quality with tons of features, nice stitching, and a great look.

I'm trying to remain objective until I've got it back and actually wear it for a day, but I was honestly blown away by this thing when I unpacked it. If it wears as well as it looks/feels, it will be a no-brainer or me to go back on Amazon and pick up a few more of these. So money.

Also available on Overstock.com and Amazon. I'm interested to see how these turn out.

No need to buy cheap suits..spend $200-500 and just wait for the good sales - Armani, Varvatos, Paul Smith, Theory etc quality for 80% off.

It's not like I work in Long Island. I'm in New York City commuting two ways through midtown. I see plenty of guys in suits, and I haven't seen a single thing to suggest that the 3 button is "coming back" or that anyone who knows what they're doing is wearing them at this point.

It's not like I work in Long Island. I'm in New York City commuting two ways through midtown. I see plenty of guys in suits, and I haven't seen a single thing to suggest that the 3 button is "coming back" or that anyone who knows what they're doing is wearing them at this point.

Easy there buddy... Just joking. Don't let suburbia make you overly sensitive. I've seen some three buttons in occasion as some of the places out there is all. Didn't as of two years back. Buy low I say and stay ahead of the lemmings.

Agree about cut making all the difference. I picked up a Perry Ellis suit at Dillard's on their annual New Years' Day sale. Regular price was around $300, and I got it for $70. A "cheap" suit priced even cheaper.

The fit on it is terrific...tapered waist, a little snugger than normal, but it looks great. My favorite suit at the moment.

I have a pretty sweet pinstripe Perry Ellis that I got off the rack at one of those places and it was my #1 before I put on 15 lbs and it got too tight But I'm working back to it

Also on the pants...make sure they don't pool up around the ankle like jeans. The back should hit just above where the sole starts on your heel. The front should hit the top of your laces, creating a minor fold at the front of your ankle.Basically, no suit should be worn right off the rack. Assume an extra $25-$75 on the sticker price to have it tailored to your body.

Very slick. What's up with the double right pockets? I could do without the extra.I learned my lesson year ago, so I won't have cuffed pants. And I'm anti-pleats.

Good point about the smaller higher lapel. It would look dumb to have regular sized lapel on a slim suit.

RE: the 1" above the shirt cuff. Is the sleeve still supposed to reach the wrist bone? In the past, my jackets sleeve showed about a half inch of the shirt cuff when my arms were straight. If it shows a full inch w/ straight arms, it'd show closer to 2" once the elbow is bent. I'm trying to imagine if that looks normal.

Oh, and skinny ties to go with a slim suit?

now that is a great suit but, for $1200, it is to be expected. for the record, i pretty much agree with all those "do's and don'ts" but cuffs. it largely depends on the color and fabric of the suit. i wouldn't commit to every suit i have leading with it but it doesn't ruin a suit or look.

Have always had cuffs and pleats, had some 3 button or double breasted, but just re-did wardrobe after weight loss and followed suggestions above to a tee. Much cleaner look and have really grown to like it.

I have a suit very similar in style and cut to that one. Med/light gray, slim fit, flat front, no cuffs, hand stitched, 100% wool. It's a Calvin Klein and I picked it up for $299 at Nordstrom Rack. Received more compliments on that suit than any other I own.

I'm giving you examples of what to look for when you're perusing various retailers. If you're patient you can get this suit for $300-400 during their end of the summer/winter sales. Alfani (Macy's Brand) makes a great slim fitting suit with their Red line. They run about $200-300 depending on the sale.

buy separates....that way you can get a jacket and pant that fits accordingly...and some of the American slim fit cuts aren't that slim. They're just fitted.
