overthinking your lineup (1 Viewer)

this season, more than any, it seems that when i make good educated moves, they always seem to backfire. for example:

started leinart over vick - my thinking: vick vs. pitt is a tough matchup. vick's passing and his WR drops are killing the ATL passing game. all the bickering going on between vick and his OC. leinart facing a tough OAK passing def but only because they have no rushing def. it is a short week, but it's OAK. he has a great game vs. the best team in the league, how will he do vs. the worst team in the league?!?!

started maroney over dunn - my thinking: dunn vs pitt is a tough matchup. dunn isn't getting red zone touches, let alone goalline touches. dunn isn't getting receptions. his only TD came on a 90 yard run. maroney is a stud in waiting. had a good game last match up vs. buffalo. has to split carries with dillon, but should certainly get his own.

starter josh scobee over dave raymer (kickers) - jax has put up 30-40 points the last couple of games and is now facing HOU. garrard could fill in nicely, even if lefty doesn't start. GB vs MIA is actually a tough match up for GB as MIA has put together a pretty good defense.

on paper, all these choices seem reasonable and the cheatsheets, ACF, my gut, Matchups to avoid, etc. agree. i know "that's why we play the games" and all the ptts whining, but come on!

how do you temper over thinking your lineup? do you just start your studs or take your punches?

I usually don't try to do too many lineup changes in the same team. One or two of those I could handle and if they don't work out I gotta hope the rest of my team pulls through. And I never bench the big studs. Honestly I wouldn't have started Leinart over Vick (yes even against the Raiders, I don't like starting rookie QB's on road games) but other than that I think your assessments were right on. This is why FFL is at the same time fun and frustrating as hell.

At this point, PPG should be your guide.Benching Vick and Dunn for two rookies....you should know better than that.

Kickers are a crapshoot.

I benched Larry Johnson for Kevin Jones and Clinton Portis. I know I should never bench my studs, but what about when you have three studs for two spots. Portis was the top rated RB this week, so he's a start, KJ has a good matchup, and LJ has a tough one. You would think they would preform in this order: Portis, KJ, LJ. In reality they came in LJ, KJ, Portis.

It's just a crapshoot sometimes.
