Owner I'm playing this week right now is starting... (1 Viewer)

I'm playing a guy who is 0-4 right now and I'm pretty sure he has giving up. The league I'm in has been together for 12 years with pretty much the same group of guys although we have booted out people in the past for being lax owners. We put weekly penalties in place for low score to try and make sure teams out of it field a competitive team as the payout at the end of the year is a pretty good sum.

I plan on shooting the GM an email to tell him to get it together with his lineup but I'm wondering if I should also take the extra step of trying to track down his # and call or text him. His # isn't on our site but I'm sure I can reach out to the Commish and get it. Is that the right thing to do? I obviously want to win this week but I'm also for having a competitive league.

If an owner is tanking he needs to be replaced immediately. Hopefully the Commish can help to field a half-way competitive team for him until a replacement owner can be found.

i would try to ping him. i would not have the commish set his lineup thought.
I'm going to ping him via email, my question is do I make the extra effort to track down his phone number. I just shot him an email and texted our Commish asking for his digits.

OMG!!!!111 CAN I BE IN YOUR LEAGUE?~??!?!?!?!?!!!1111

Nah, call the commish. Maybe he had some late pick-ups.

I would be more worried in about an hour or so. Maybe he's waiting until 15 minutes before kickoff..

I would say yes, if only to give him a rash of s**t for giving up. 12 years is a long time and he should know better. If he doesn't shape up you need to replace him quickly or it throws the whole season off and you can have even more people pissed and giving up.

I think that's going a little overboard. Maybe he's had a crisis this week and he simply hasn't had time to update his lineup. People do have lives outside of fantasy football. You've emailed him. That should be the extent of what needs to be done from your part.

funny thing is the guy has won the league 3 times and has only been around for 8 out of the 12 years. he just showed up to the draft absolutely wrecked, drafted LT with the 5th pick and had equally bad picks for most of the entire draft.

i know the guy pretty well, the only crisis he has had this week is that Michigan went down yesterday. he has an alcohol and substance problem (not that there is anything wrong with that) so my guess is he might still be in bed.

Well, I would still think that's a little overboard to call him. I guess on the side of he knows what needs to be done and if he doesn't turn in his lineup, that's his own fault. LIke you said, at the end of the year just don't let him back in. I don't have the desire, nor is it my responsibilty of business, to contact my opponent and tell him "Hey, turn in your lineup."

He probably has a domestic abuse, robbery, rape and murder problem, (not that there's anything wrong with that). Who am I to judge? But failing to submit a lineup is unforgivable.

if there's nothing wrong with it, it's not a problem.email is enough.

Yes, you should definitely have him pf the commish fix his lineup. Letting somebody do that is BS & can ruin a league.

As commish, I have a rule in place that don't allow teams to start bye week or known injured players who are out. If they do this, I will intervene & set their lineups, though I've never had to enforce it. I suggest all leagues have a similar rule to maintain competitiveness.

I've started guys who were on a bye before. If bye weeks hit me and I didn't want to cut anyone, can't pull off a trade, and don't have the depth, I've taken a zero. Perhaps that's what this guy is doing?

If you've emailed both him and the commish your job is done, though I commend you for trying to keep things fair for the league.

Of course, if he has won it 3 of the last 8 years, perhaps he's simply now playing with a handicap and giving you all a headstart.

Always try and contact the owner, and then the Commish if it has to go that far. There may be certain real life circumstances that are preventing him/her from turning in a legit lineup this week. It does seem fishy, but we can't always immediately jump to conclusions. If you can't get a hold of the owner, talk with the Commish and see if they have heard anything. If the week goes by with no legit lineup turned in, THEN maybe have the Commish bring up the subject to the league. If he/she refuses, then I would email the league and take it upon myself. Trying to mail it in after 4 weeks is complete :pickle: and bushleague. No room for that in any league...

What's his roster? We will set his lineup here. FF is not for girlymen like him. 0-4 and gives up. L-O-S-E-R.

what site is hosting? we had a league hosted on ESPN where an owner couldn't log in for the first 3 weeks. don't know why he didn't contact anyone, but right after he finally did, ESPN sent out a notice that "some owners are unable to login" and that they were working on it. same guy couldn't log in again this week and commish had to set his lineup.

I don't think it's your place to say anything more. The Commish needs to be the one to take action. It's good that the league lets the Commish know, but that's why there is a Commish to take care of the problems! I fine people $25 for setting an invalid lineup (starting a player listed as out or on bye, unless circumstances are unavoidable) and I increase the fine or boot if neccesary.
