OWNERS APPROVE NEW LABOR DEAL! (1 Viewer)

The NFL network is reporting that Free Agency will not start until Friday at 12:01 a.m. because they have to calculate the new cap limit

Buffalo and Cincy, the only two teams voting against the new agreement.
That sounds like there was revenue sharing, but not to the level the cheapest owners wanted. That sounds like the perfect compromise to me.

From ESPN.com

The NFL owners have until 8 p.m. ET Wednesday to inform the union whether or not they will accept the current proposal. Here's what happens next:

Thumbs up

• Free agency will start at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday, 24 hours later than scheduled.

• The 2006 salary cap will be around $105 million.

105 Million...I would think there are going to be teams that will be able to offer a lot of money to improve their club but also keep some of the players they thought they might lose.

Damn! This is no good.

We needed total collapse, and a free for all

Then we could play the All-American game: Finger pointing and apportioning blame.

Yeah, but what about the dental plan? I hope they didn't mess with the dental plan!
Michael Strahan was actually the catalyst for the deal getting done. Apparently, the league had been picking up his dental bill for entirely too long. When the Union decided to concede the Dental Plan, that's when Tag approved the deal and brought it to the owners.

Although revenue sharing was a big issue, when the owners were explained how much they actually saved due to the absense of Strahan's dental bill (dollar by dollar explaination), they ultimately decided that the savings could cover the cost of lost revenue in the senario of the new deal.

All an all, it's a win win for both sides.

Strahan remains the only odd man out.

Im officially holding my breath at this point....

:X Get your checkbooks ready....I think those fantasy football fees will soon be going up.

Thanks for that. I can rest easy now. :P

Redundancy alert!

I'll confess, I really did not think this would happen. But I sure am glad it did.

When does the season start?

I'm so excited.

This means that the new cap is somewhere between $105-110M.

I wonder if the Seahawks knew of this.... being that they signed Alexander to a deal that could not possibly be matched by any other team in the league.

And the Colts, since they didn't even hesitate to re-sign Reggie Wayne to what, the 3rd highest paid WR in the NFL?

Hope I can get my hands on an adjusted NFL cap status tonight.

Some details about the agreement from the Washington Post:

The owners also agreed to a system that increases the degree to which the teams share locally generated revenues, easing the concerns of some owners about a growing economic divide between clubs.

The labor deal apparently is for six seasons, running through the 2011 season, and sets the salary cap for the players at slightly less than 60 percent of a greatly expanded pool of league revenues. The owners' ratification of the deal, which was proposed by the union and delivered to the owners here Tuesday by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, came after they met for two days at a Dallas-Fort Worth airport hotel...........

....................The new deal contains a mechanism to adjust the salary cap based on how much the teams collectively spend on player compensation. If the teams collectively spend more than the salary cap in a season -- which is possible since the cap is a flexible spending limit -- the cap would be automatically adjusted downward in subsequent seasons. If the teams collectively spend less than the salary cap in a season, the cap would be automatically adjusted upward in the future.
Matt Birk is a genius. :bag:

Yippy Kie A MFers !!!!

Cincy and Buffalo = Small market cheap owners

End of story.

It got passed, that's all that matters.
Mike Brown out of sync with the rest of the NFL? Shocking. As for Buffalo, maybe the old man just got tuckered out and fell asleep. Not fair to put an 87 year old guy through that.

I thought they hired Marv so he would have someone to hang with and keep him awake.

One clarification, Mort is on ESPN News live right now saying the reports on the cap number aren't quite accurate. Mort contends the 2006 cap number will actually be $102mm and that will jump to $109mm in 2007 tentatively.

Mort also just said they're asking Upshaw to approve ANOTHER delay on free agency by 24 hours so it wouldn't begin until 12:01 on SATURDAY :sadbanana:

THe commish is on NFL Network and he just stated the cap for 2006 will be $102 million and $109 million in 2007.

He also stated that free agency will be delayed at least 24 hours and possibly 48 hours.

Is it weird that the resolution of this thing has put me in a really good mood? No uncapped 2007, no potential lockout or decertification and strike, no "Yankees" gap in talent on the field, no more labor problems for 6 more years.

Anybody else feel like a cloud has lifted?

Gene Upshaw is on NFL network right now. Cancel that, cell phone issues right now but when they come back rom commercial Upshaw will be on live.
