"Television revenue is what feeds us,4.5 billion a year=each team gets 30 million whether we play or not, clause was put in the deal by owners"

"25% percent of our salaries need to be saved this year and next year, this will happen, they are sure players will break because of needs!"

" They(owners) know how we as players spend and are banking on us as a union and taking a less significant deal (CBA)<----Wow!!!!!!!n"

The NFL will not be able to endure stuffing mega-lossess down their TV partner's throats for any meaningful amount of time at all. Football is a loss leader for the networks and these deals have not been "marked-to-market" to levels commensurate with much weaker economy. Direct TV has yet to turn a profit yet on its sports programming.Don't think for a minute that the NFL will get a free ride from the television golden goose.

Sorry my agreed post was in response to the post above mine. I also agree that the owners aren't stupid enough to kill the golden goose. They realize that they're riding a gravy-train right now and anything that upsets the cart could lead to very rough long-term consequences (SEe MLB).

Yeah, getting that put in the deal was very smart. Gives the NFL the ability to tell the players that they can close up shop for a year, eliminate the largest expense, and have enough revenue coming in to cover operations, pay debt, etc and still earn a profit.

I saw something recently about the number of NBA players who live paycheck to paycheck being staggering, and I would expect it to be somewhat of an issue for football players as well. Forced savings will help a bit, but not enough.

Keep in mind that 85 didn't know that banks make $$$ off the $$$ people put in them until someone explained it to him last training camp.

This amazes me yet doesn't surprise me. How does one make millions and not know how his money is handled? Oh well.
