Green Bay Packers
Injury report
I believe this game opened up at -5.5 but the line came down because of all the injuries to the Lions DL on Thanksgiving.
Romeo Dobbs is still in the protocol but it looks like he is trending to play.
Jaire Alexander, who knows, always difficult to say if he is going to be ready. LaFleur didn't offer any insight in his last presser.
Since their first meeting Week 9, the Packers had a bye week 10, and this will be their 4th game in 18 days. Their 3-game winning streak came against 3 teams with losing records who are a combined 14-22.
Same for the Lions - 4th game in 18 days - and their bye week was back in Week 5. Since the last meeting:
On offense since Week 9, Detroit's rushing attack has totaled 141-632-7 in the last 4 weeks. Since the bad game in Texas, Goff has gone 74/103 (71.8%) with 5 TDs and no turnovers in the last 3 games.
The Lions had the 7th best Overall DVOA through 12 weeks since 1979, behind only 2007 NE, 1985 CHI, 1998 DEN, 1991 WAS, 1995 DAL and 2018 KC. Their subpar performance on Thanksgiving has now knocked them out of the Top Ten overall DVOA since 1979.
I, of course, cannot stand the Green Bay Packers. They were in our way for 30 years.
But I like Matt LaFleur. He's from Mount Pleasant, MI, where his dad was a starting LB on the CMU 1974 national champion team, and then he was a defensive assistant for 22 years. His dad was friends with my uncle. I remember Matt deciding to go to Western Michigan, but they tried to convert him to WR. He transferred to Saginaw Valley State and led his team to the D-II playoffs three years in a row. His 2 starting WRs went on to play 17 seasons in the NFL between them.
LaFleur fell off my radar for a couple years as he went through a couple grad assistant and low level college coaching jobs (2 memorable years under Chip Kelly at CMU.) He was the offensive coordinator at tiny Ashland College in Ohio when his buddy Robert Saleh, who roomed with him when he was a grad assistant for Kelly, called him up and said they might have an opening. That 2008 Houston Texans team was coached by Gary Kubiak, who had just promoted Kyle Shanahan to his OC. Their youngest offensive assistants were LaFleur and a skinny kid from Yale by the name of Mike McDaniel.

Same for the Lions - 4th game in 18 days - and their bye week was back in Week 5. Since the last meeting:
- Week 10 - at Houston SNF Goff threw 5 interceptions, Lions came back from a 23-7 halftime deficit to win 26-23 on a walk off 52 yard FG by Jake Bates (who also hit a 58 yarder with 5:01 left.)
- Week 11 - Jacksonville 52-6 largest win margin in franchise history, team record 645 yards total offense, scored 7 touchdowns on their first 7 possessions.
- Week 12 - at Indianapolis 24-6. On the Colts last 7 possessions, they ran 25 plays and gained 85 yards, finishing the day 11/28 passing, including 4 of their last 17 attempts.
- Week 13 - Chicago 23-20. Tale of two halves. Chicago got it's first FD with less than a minute left in the first half. Detroit outgained the Bears 274-38. In the second half, Chicago scored on 3 of their first 4 possessions, while Detroit - after matching the Bears first TD with a 79 yard drive - had two punts and their first missed FGA of the season as the Bears climbed back into it. Chicago outscored the Lions 20-7 in the final 30 minutes, 13-0 in the 4th quarter, before imploding during a wild final sequence when they were able to run only one play in the last 32 seconds despite having a timeout remaining.
On offense since Week 9, Detroit's rushing attack has totaled 141-632-7 in the last 4 weeks. Since the bad game in Texas, Goff has gone 74/103 (71.8%) with 5 TDs and no turnovers in the last 3 games.
