Packers | Team now interested in Brooks

Wed, 22 Mar 2006 06:14:24 -0800

Bill Soliday, of the Oakland Tribune, citing the Wisconsin State Journal, reports the Green Bay Packers are interested in free agent QB Aaron Brooks (Saints). "Aaron (Brooks) is obviously on the list," said head coach Mike McCarthy, who was Brooks' offensive coordinator in New Orleans. "He's somebody we talked about. As far as Brett's (Favre) decision, yeah, you'd like to have it yesterday, no doubt about it. Obviously, the opportunity to sign quarterbacks is closing." If Favre does not return, and indications are he will be back, the Packers would be down to only one quarterback, QB Aaron Rodgers, on their roster.

It would be an interesting turn of events if Brooks ended up where he started his career in Green Bay?

This has been speculated about for a while. If Favre doesn't come back my bet is that Brooks will be the starter for the Packers to open the season.

Like I said yesterday, this would not suprise me at all.

According to PFT, Favre has told the team he is comming back. I wonder if they'll still persue Brooks? It would make for a fun camp battle to say the least...

Brooks probably has fewer ints over the past 5 years than Favre does..
Farve:80 games

98 Ints

1.225 per game average

Brooks:

77 games

78 Ints

1.013 per game average

Any news on how his meeting went with Oak. That is where Brooks needs to end up!
I saw this in the Truth and Rumors section in SI today:Anyone looking for telltale signs might conclude that the Oakland Raiders and quarterback Aaron Brooks are closing in on a serious relationship. Brooks arrived Monday in the Bay Area, spent Tuesday visiting with the Raiders and unlike some other personalities the Raiders have entertained recently stayed the night and will meet with the Raiders again today.

it is common that a player stays over and meets again the next day
Apparently not in this case with OAK since they implied that Brooks was one of the few who did.

Brett sure did his best to close the gap this year with 36 turnovers.

Did Rodgers inherit Chad Pennington's arm or something? This would make no sense, Rodgers needs PT this season and having Old Man Favre and Over Rated Brooks blocking his path makes very little sense if they still think he's the heir apparent.

The Packers were less than thrilled with what they saw from Rodgers last year in every aspect of his development.

16 attempts is hardly enough to merit early judgement, IMO.Heck, Alex Smith had a 40 QB rating in 165 attempts while Rodgers had a 39 QB rating in just 16 attempts. Does this mean the 49ers will give up on Smith? He was less than thrilling as a starter last year as well.

My point is: QB's often take time to develop, but stealing their playing time away in favor of a overrated veteran is ridiculous.

Did you forget what they saw from him in mini camps, training camps, preseason and practices?
