Packers now interested in Priest Holmes? (1 Viewer)

And finally, Green Bay will keep an eye on what happens with Priest Holmes and the Chiefs. If the former All-Pro running back can prove that he’s healthy enough to resume his career after sitting out 22 months with a neck injury, he may be of some interest to the Packers - especially if the ground game sputters in the preseason. Holmes will likely be released once Larry Johnson ends his holdout.

  :excited:

i'm more interested to read that they think Wells is an above-average center but that they think Spitz might be better

Everything else in that "here's what we're hearing" seems reasonable.

However, I can't believe that they have an interest in Priest Holmes.

Doubt that unless they will take a kicker, a defensive lineman, maybe Wells, and a lower the 1st draft pick. I don't see any chance the Packers would trade away the multiple picks the chiefs would want.

Interesting comment on Wells contract (on same page). Spitz will be a very good guard but will likely never be an all-pro (they say he has a funny body and stiff hips - great in space). He could be an all Pro center though. Now that rookie Babre has started to blossom (great speed and size) they have the component for a Super line. Clifton, College, Spitz, Babre, Tausch. College and Babre also look to be the next set of tackles. Maybe not this year but next year if those five Gel, Favre is a TE (or 2) from making another run. IMO

Jackson will be good enough, but right now he's just about the only heathly guy left. I read today that Pope will likely go on injured reserve. Of course if they could actually make a deal for Johnson. OOO WHEEE!!

IF money grew on trees I'd be rich too.

watch Hard Knocks on HBOhe can barely even practice. said he hasn't done any conditioning or weightlifting in TWENTY TWO MONTHS. that's a long time. no way he gets in to game shape any time soon. if the Packers picked him up i'd be absolutely floored.

Besides his great ability (in a box environment) it might be that that Spitz plays MEAN. I'm not kidding. On the interior you need to get down and dirty. Wells might just be to nice of a guy.

I wonder what Holmes contract looks like. He didn't retire so his contract could be more that the Chiefs can afford alongside Johnson. Its got to be a big chunk of change and two Tomlinson level contracts would be very very hard to stomach. If I'm the Packers I'd take him in a heart beat. Priest Holmes would make an unbelievable 3rd down back. Jackson and Morency can take the beating on 1st and 2nd down. Holmes can take 3rd down and he is the master inside the 5.

Maybe just Maybe:

- Holmes was the guy George ####z was talking about when he said the Packers were going to add one more outstanding player.

- The Chiefs are in a money bind and Holmes wants his 11 mil (or whatever) that he's still under contract for

I can only hope.

Even more interesting is that article by another teams scout. Favre is NOT NEAR the QB hes was 4 years ago BUT he is still the 8TH best QB in the league."Favre-bashing seems to be in vogue nowadays. Why? Because many members of the national media view the 37-year-old as one of those typical aging stars who doesn't know when to hang 'em up. "Well, those people are wrong," said the scout. "This certainly isn’t a Johnny Unitas and the Chargers scenario. Favre is still a good quarterback. He just hasn’t had much talent around him the past few seasons. It’s easy to rip the guy based solely on stats and a few glimpses of him on national television, but those who see him play on a consistent basis know better. Besides, do you really think we’d be having this discussion if Favre was surrounded last season by a veteran offensive line, Joseph Addai, Dominic Rhodes, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark instead of two rookie guards, Ahman Green, Vernand Morency, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, David Martin and Bubba Franks?”"

I'd prefer Dillon over Holmes. At least Dillon is 100% healthy. Holmes... you don't know what could happen. He could be 'healthy' but one more hit and he could be history *crosses fingers*

And I hear that Ted Thompson and Barry Sanders had breakfast at an IHOP in Detroit yesterday.

Regreting extending Wells? After one year? Please. Now, if it said he regreted extending Franks, I'd buy it...

This is the worst type of rumor mongering....

Peterson just answered this question on MNF tonight by saying that they can keep Priest on PUP for up to six week starting the season at a price that Peterson considers very reasonable. Peterson also mentioned that he likes to leave all his options open as long as possible. Coaches want to see what Holmes has got right now even though he considers himself a couple of months behind in conditioning. BTW, Holmes said that he hasn't lifted weights or run in two years based on doctors orders to take it easy and give his nerve issue every chance to heal without stress. Now his doctors have examined him and told him he's good to go. It doesn't sound like he's going anywhere until KC evaluates what they have with him.

For those that thought Holmes was doing this to help Peterson and KC in contract negotiations against LJ,,,this type of thinking is wrong. Holmes waited until his doctors cleared him and now he wants to see if he has anything left. Most people in the KC media will even admit that Holmes is his own man and walks to his own drum and thinking that he is part of a Peterson conspiracy is completely out of character with his past behavior and what most people have said about him in the past.

Originally I heard that LJ was asking for $28m and KC offering $14m and yesterday I heard that the sides were at $19m and $23m so it sounds like just a matter of time until they split the difference and end up at $21m and since KC is deep at RB, wants to get good looks at the otherv RB's and rest LJ.

I'm starting to think that LJ isn't going to be missing any time at all.

I don't think the Chiefs waive Priest. That wouldn't sit well.Trade, talk him into retiring...fine but not waiving him.

I don't see that

ETA I don't see him playing for a non-lock-contender either.

He's only been back in football a few weeks and this expects him to move his family? for what?
