I haven't heard any details about the contract but here's a quote from Thompson:

“As we talked about in the past, we try to be proactive in our discussions with our current players and we felt like this was an appropriate time to try to come to an agreement with Aaron,” said Thompson. “We feel like this is good for the organization and the players, and we will continue this approach as we move forward.”

And somewhere amidst the New York skyline, more pins are furiously plunged into the much-abused Aaron Rodgers effigy.

:rolleyes:Good for GB. They've got a lot of cap to work with. Rodgers was one of the many many players up after the 2009 season. Next up- Kampman and Jennings

IMO, Tauscher should be #1 on the list as he is a free agent after this year.Funny that just this morning I was reading on JSOnline where Rodgers was not aware they had even begun to talk about any extensions (at least that was his line to the press).Jennings is saying he does not want to deal with it during the season and will wait til the offseason. Not sure where Kampman's deal sits right now.

Just this morning there was also a piece in the Washington Post about signing Campbell to a contract extension, and obviously he's in the same QB class as Rodgers, and they mentioned Rodgers in that piece too.

Jennings is going to break the bank. Collins and Tauscher expire after this season. I haven't seen the terms of the contract but having extended it before Monday they can add it to this year's cap. Hopefully the front-loaded the hell out of the contract to eat up a majority of $20 million they are under this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they extended Tauscher in the next couple days. Collins might be on his way out.

The marketplace dictates that Jennings should be worth about ten first-round picks to someone.
He's gonna get a contract that puts him in the top 5 as far as WR salary. I'm sure his agent is going to use the Fitz contract as a starting point, although Jennings obviously won't get as much.

:lmao: No way does Collins leave the Packers. TT may be seen as cheap by the ignorant masses, but I think we'll see why he was saving those dollars very shortly. Collins is having a pro bowl year, and will be rewarded handsomely for it. Ditto for Jennings. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those two deals go down before Monday.

I'm sure TT set up Rodgers' deal to count a huge portion of it against this years cap. They've got quite bit of available space, and this would be the perfect application for it.

He's not cheap but is determined to avoid the salary cap hell that hit the Niners.

Agreed...the reason behind getting these done now and piling as much as possible on this year's cap.

Well someone is going to be on their way out. Kampman, Pickett, Jennings, Clifton, Collins, Blackmon, Spitz, Moll, Colledge all expire in the same year.

Clifton and Pickett depending on play the rest of the way and early next year I would guess (just with TT liking to go younger).Alot of that depends on Harrell...if he shows anything, Pickett is gone.Blackmon...meh. Nice return guy...he might get extended but to nothing high unless he comes around in his coverage.Moll or Colledge...they both better do something if they want another deal.

TT has the Packers positioned so that they can sign anybody and everybody they want to on that list. My guess is that Moll and Clifton may be the odd ones out. Clifton appears to be nearing the end, and Moll just isn't that good.

I think Jennings will be on his way out. No way TT pays him top 5 salary. I think that's why they've got so much depth at WR right now- spent so many 1st day picks on WRs. Jones could be great if he could stay healthy. Jordy looks pretty incredible too. I would expect them to draft another WR 1st day this year as well. Driver's days are almost over too

Jennings will be back with the Packers. No way will TT let him get away especially with Driver getting up their in age. You take those two away and the Packers are average at best at WR.

What's the rush? Has a year left on his deal, and the Pack can franchise him for two years if they want. he ain't going anywhere for a while. The cap has skyrocketed lately, no team is in "trouble", and no young studs are gonna hit free agency anytime soon. What we used to assume about teams' finances is no longer true. Everyone can afford their best players now, for the most part.

Pack is deep at WR, but they dont let a talent like Jennings go. Nelson has had a nice start to his career, but he has not been a world beater. Driver will not be around much longer so they need to keep the guys they have.Clifton is just about done so I dont see the Packers paying him big money to stay around. TT will get hammered for this moves since fans will look at like Whale or Rivirea leaving the team. But as those two did not do a lot after they left. Moll should surely go as there is some younger guys that can take his role. Pickett could be gone if Harrell develops, Jolly stays clean and playing, Cole keeps improving.

Key players in their last year (in addition to Tauscher) are Colin Cole, Bigby and Ruvell Martin. Somewhat less important are Jarett Bush, Michael Montgomery, Jason Hunter and Tramon Williams. I think its going to be interesting to see who if anyone gets extended prior to the Monday deadline and who gets done later. I'm curious what they will do with KGB, who is their most cap-expensive player since Favre retired (http://cappage.timesfour.com/). Obviously he won't be extended, but will he even be brought back next year?

I would put him near the top of the list.

No way Jennings moves. Not a GB homer or anything but the Packers organization seem like legit businessmen to me. I think they'd sooner cut Driver and groom a #2 rather then let Jennings walk. The guy will be the future of their receivers.

Why would TT not do it...he paid Kampman a good deal, he paid Driver well, he paid Woodson well, he paid Pickett well, he paid Harris well.He does not like to overpay for older players...but young guys like Jennings...who do it right and don't whine about wanting new deals he has taken care of in the past.

IMO...Tramon is not less important given the age of Harris and Woodson and how Williams has played while Harris was out.Tauscher and Bigby to me are next...though, with Rouse and Collins, TT may not feel he needs to pay Bigby and lets him go.

Cole is a ? depending on how Harrell does and how the Jolly issue pans out. Though, he won't cost much to keep really.

KGB...sorry...one move pass rusher who, while a great guy to have around, costs way to much for what he gives you.

$28 MILLION IN FIRST THREE YEARS FOR RODGERS

Posted by Mike Florio on October 31, 2008, 9:56 p.m. EDT

More details are trickling out regarding the contract signed on Friday by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

We’re told that he’ll make $28 million over the next three years, and that the new money on his contract is $63.5 million over five years.

That’s an average of $12.7 million per year, which puts him currently in the top five of all NFL players.

Not bad for a guy with seven starts and four wins in his career.

Still, the contract is light on guaranteed money. Most elite players are getting $30 million or more guaranteed.

That said, Rodgers will be very well paid — if he stays healthy and if he remains effective.

$20 MILLION GUARANTEED FOR RODGERS

Posted by Mike Florio on October 31, 2008, 4:46 p.m. EDT

The contract signed Friday by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers pay him big money. But not huge money.

But we’d take it if we could get it.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Rodgers will receive $20 million guaranteed on a six-year, $65 million deal.

The contract falls short of the deal signed last year by Tony Romo of the Cowboys, who’ll receiver $67 million over six years, and who got $30 million guaranteed. And Romo’s deal was criticized in some circles for not pushing north the high-water mark for high-end quarterbacks.

After three years of sitting on the bench (and losing plenty of money via unachievable play-time incentives), Rodgers likely opted to take what he could get now in lieu of pushing for free agency after the 2009 season.

Absent an extension to the CBA, Rodgers would have been eligible for restricted free agency only after next season, because the rules of the uncapped year (set for 2010) require players to have six or more seasons in order to achieve unrestricted free agency.

Now...seeing that contract and where it put Rodgers...do any of you feel he won't give Jennings top 5 money?

as much as i'd like to disagree with you i can't.Thompson will definitely give Jennings top 5 money, i don't even think it's a question, it's a sure thing.
