Packers to make serious run at Adalius Thomas (1 Viewer)

Rumors locally have the Packers trying to be the first team to get A. Thomas in tonight for a visit and lock him up before he leaves town. Obviously rumors are just that, but I have to say if the Packers swing a trade for Moss, sign Thomas and draft Lynch. Things are looking up.

Does he really want to be a DE?

I am starting to think more and more that they will sign him to play the position Poppinga's currently plays and then move Jenkins inside on passing downs so he can move to DE. If this signing would happen somehow, KGB would be as good as gone. Once again, I think every team in the league wants to sign this guy and I really do think it is going to be a matter of who gets him in first and offers him 8-9 million a year.

The name Moss does not fit here. What do Packers Fans really think he will do? The guy is used up, done, finished...

My opinion on the Moss thing is, where there is smoke there is fire. Jax and GB are the only real suitors for him right now so if they can get a 3rd rounder, that great value. I don't see him being a world beater but he will be better than he was in Oakland with a compentent qb who doesn't get sacked 9 times a game, and with an offense that is running a circa 1984 gameplan being called by a former Bed and Breakfast manager. Anyway you look at it, Moss is lightyears better than Carlyle Holiday and Ruvell Martin who were sharing the #3 spot.

I don't understand what's wrong with a defensive line of Kampman, Pickett, Williams, and Jenkins on early downs, moving Jenkins inside and bringing in KGB on passing downs. They might need more depth, but that worked pretty well at the end of last season, albeit against poor offenses.

Perhaps Thomas is being brought in as a linebacker, and Poppinga had his shortcomings in pass coverage, so that does make some sense. I don't know much about Thomas, but if his background is as a pass rusher, it doesn't seem like he would help in pass coverage.

Well they have the 5th most amount of money to spend and finished 8-8. I think the Packers should be looking to spend money. The funny thing is if go read Pasquarelli's column on ESPN he only has the Packers interested in re-signing A. Green out of his top 30 free agents. I have heard more rumors about the that 49ers signing Thomas, Clements, Stallworth, Bennett, Davis, etc. I have only seen the Packers linked to Thomas, Moss, re-signing Green, and Griffith.

Adalius Thomas has great position versatility. This is part of what makes him such a catch in free agency.

The Packers are not that far away from being a very good defense. Thomas would put them a veteran safety away from being dangerous on that side of the ball.
