Planning a little beach trip with the wife and kids (9,5).

Looking for a decent place on the beach...if its a high rise hoping to be on the lower floors and it must have a pool and other things to do besides just the beach.

Yes...have read other topics in the past where people then ask why do you want more than just the beach. Face it...kids that age won't take the beach all day every day...have to have other things to do and a nice pool in case they get that bothered by salt water.

So...where to go and where to stay???

Hilton Sandestin pool Suite. Go out your patio door and 10 steps to the pool or 20 steps to the beach.

Thank me later!

I had a post about stuff to do from NOLA across to the Pensacola area as we were road tripping from Louisiana up to Atlanta last April. We really enjoyed the Pensacola Naval Air museum if you/the kids are into planes. It's driving distance from most of the beaches down that way and free!

Can't comment too much on the "where to stay" part as we stayed at Residence Inn in Gulfport Mississippi. It was right across from the gulf, and dirt cheap, but not really a "beach" place.

we (family of 5 with kids aged 5, 10, and 12, plus my parents - 7 in all) stayed in a 3-bdrm rental at the Beach Colony resort in Perdido Key, FL. Perdido is on the FL side of the FL/AL border.

there are several high-rise condo complexes there. Beach Colony stood out for me because of its huge balconies. Had indoor and outdoor pools.

not a whole lot to do in Perdido but a short drive over to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, which was fantastic. Also, very close to Gulf Shores, so you are close enough to all that GS has to offer, but not stuck in the middle of it all day long.

If you're looking for extracurricular stuff (go carts, mini golf, Fudruckers, arcades, shopping, boardwalk, etc) for the kids (and wife) then destin is your best bet for sure. The most expensive of the 3 options but also the nicest.

Pensacola native.....Love my home town but Destin is better for families for the activities. But the crowds are much less in Pensacola & Perdido. More man eating sharks in Destin anyway.

My family (parents, sister's family and my family) booked a home rental a month ago down payment and all ($1250) through VRBO for a trip Easter week to Destin. We just found out that the owner is cancelling and states the house is not available for rent. They state the owner is planning on using the house instead for the week. As an apology they offered a 10% discount on a future rental through them, nice. We had vacations through work planned out seeing as we are driving from Wisconsin. I am sure there is nothing we can do outside of giving a bad review on VRBO to potential future customers that cancellations can happen even though down payment has been accepted.

Now we are trying to find a new place to rent not necessarly last minute but trying to find a place with others trying to plan their Spring Breaks.

If anyone has any recommendations for the Destin area I would greatly appreciate any input.

Here or Orange Beach - here is a good link, there are a bunch that are fairly similar.
