Philadelphia better be making a lot of money off of this, because it is really going to be a pain in the ### with all these extra people.

 
I can see why not.

That said, the Vatican and The Pope are diplomatic entities, purely politically speaking, and inviting -- as a form of protest -- people completely and actively antithetical to Church doctrine, which is its essence, seems like a typical Obama diplomatic maneuver. Clueless and secularly dogmatic.

eta2* Also, I generally don't have strong feelings one way or another about the social politics of Catholicism, but given the diplomatic good that the Catholic Church has done in the late 20th century, you'd figure he'd at least be a little deferent. Nope. Not on his watch. Must be the JV Pope or something.
