Papelbon (1 Viewer)

1990: he had 4BB/73K in 73.3 IP and an ERA of 0.61
will papelbon top that?

thread over.
:lmao: He's already on pace to have at least that many K's.... with an ERA 1/3 of that total.

Sure, he'll have a few more walks.... but I'll take the 0.25 ERA over the 4 BBs....

Granted, all signs say he SHOULD allow another run or three at some point in the season... but we've been saying that for a while now so who knows...

Yeah, I would guess that ERA is going to regress back a bit. If he can keep it under 1.00 for the entire season it would be incredibly impressive. I don't know if he can beat Eck's 0.61.

Steroids?
Highly unlikely.... If anyone on the Sox is a candidate for juicing I'd say it's Kapler.ETA: My logic is he's not exactly throwing 100mph here... he's not showing any signs that would indicate he'd benefit from juicing. He's just got a deceptively ive fastball with good movement, as well as some solid other pitches including an impressive splitter.

Agreed.. there will be the save where he lets a man or two on then gives up a HR that triples his ERA.... I'd be amazed if he can manage to avoid that all season.. will be more a sign of luck than anything as he does give up the occational deep fly.

Manny. Schilling. Ortiz. I'll go ahead and put money down that all those guys did something in their career. I'd bet my house that Manny did.
Based on what? The fact that he hits a few HRs every year? He's never hit more than 45 in a season so I don't think you can lump him in with beasts like McGwire, Bonds, etc who were pushing 60-70 in their juicing days....

You have to consider workload as well. Francona said last night, during the broadcast, that "oh yeah he's available, he's young". That's great in June - but come September

I put more stock in Manny being on it because of the fact that he played with Grimsley and that MLB players have stated themselves that anywhere from 50-80% of players were on something. I think it's probably pretty close to 50%. That puts half of your beloved Sox on something. Don't get me wrong...I don't think it's any big deal at all. I just think people are blind to their own home team (myself included) because they feel like they 'know' the players better.

I'm a Sox fan.....

Players I think have taken roids: Ortiz, Damon, Nomar

Players that may have but I don't think they did: Manny, Mueller, Nixon, Kapler, Lowe

Players that I am almost 100% sure did not: Arroyo, Pedro, Schilling, Millar, Wakefield

Don't have to be a red sox fan to see that 0.25/12BB > 0.61/4BBBut then again... I'm being incredibly unrealistic and saying his ERA will be goinig up so what do I know. :loco:
