Parental control apps for child's phone (1 Viewer)

Got an 11 year old starting middle school who's getting his first cell phone.  Anybody use a parental control app to limit internet access or monitor texting/other activities?

We just had a thread on this...

Our 11yo just got his first phone for bday and middle school use (Android).

We're using Family Link (Google) to monitor and control his use... including automatically shutting off at a prescribed time. Using Life 360 to track where he is...free version shows us exactly where the phone is with gps and alerts us when he gets home or to school. It also shows him where we are, so he'll know if we're on our way or not.

Fwiw Life 360 also shows battery percentage left, which will be useful at some point I guess. Free version allows 2 saved spots to provide notification alerts (home and school for us).

I did a search for "Phone" and came up empty.  I figured there had been a thread on it.

I've begun setting up Family Link which has been seemless so far.  Thanks for the tips.

one of the best ideas i have heard recently is creating a .xxx suffix for all porn related sites and not letting them use .com anymore. This would make it much easier to block sites that are not child appropriate.

and much easier to find...

As a parent, you should understand what your child can access on a mobile phone and what you want to keep them away from. It is vital for the safety and security of your child on mobile phones and the internet. It is also essential to know how often they should be spending their limited mobile phone time and how much freedom and freedom you give them to decide when they want to go outside and play or communicate with you. I read on https://www.familyorbit.com/blog/phone-monitoring-apps/ about some apps to monitor kids. I use one of them, and I am very delighted with it.

Awesome, thanks!  Your wisdom inspires me. Do you have a newsletter I can subscribe to?  Perhaps a product I can purchase?

I use qstudio, it's not perfect, mainly because IOS blocks a lot of the ability you would expect to be available.

A combination of Qstudio and Screentime limits can manage most situations.

Secretly installed kill switch with parent controlled remote. For those special times when the kid won't put the damn thing down.

The aforementioned Google Family Link does have that feature to lock a device.  I've done quite a bit of reading on it over the past few months as my oldest is about to hit that "I want/need a phone" stage and it seems pretty robust. Life 360 is good as well for location services...for my wife to make sure I don't go to a liquor store lol
