Pass Catcher Valuation (1 Viewer)

For this year we are combining the TE and WR positions into a Pass Catcher position - so you need to start 3 Pass Catchers, which can be any combination of 3 players from the WR or TE position - so could be 3 WR or 3 TE or any combination thereof.  (In ESPN it is listed as "Wide Receiver/Tight End (WR/TE)" and we have 3 starters from this pool, and no starters specifically for WR or TE.  Although in drafting and rostering, the WR and TE positions do still get listed separately.  But when choosing starters they are treated the same.

Since most published rankings list TE and WR separately, there's no real good way to research on the nets.  My thoughts are the top 5 or 6 TE's would still have value while the lower TE's would be nearly worthless in such a scenario.  But since you no longer HAVE TO start a TE, the TE scarcity is less important.  So just focusing on the top 5 TE's, how would you value them vis-a-vis other WR's in a draft?  Would you rank the TE's the same or a few spots higher/lower in this scenario? (Or even many spots higher/lower).

For example as of today, for PPR, David Dodds has Chris Godwin as WR5 and 15 overall, Travis Kelce is TE1 and 16 overall, and DeAndre Hopkins is WR6 and 19 overall.  Assuming you agreed with this relative ranking in a normal league of starting 2 WR and 1 TE, would you change Kelce's ranking in the combined Pass Catcher scenario?

Don't look at the rankings, as those are based on value of the positions when separate. It's real simple, look at the projections and simply slide the TEs in wherever they slot within the WRs so you have a single list of WR/TE based on their projected scores.

Agree with "acarey50" here.  Based on Dodd's recent projections with the combination of WR/TE, with these 3, Godwin is 5th, Hopkins is 7th, Kelce is 13th.

This is the right answer.
