Pass interference calls per season? (1 Viewer)

Too lazy to look this up for a friend. I'm looking to get statistics on pass interference penalties called per season. Help?

Thanks.

Thus far, I can only go back two seasons.

BUT, there is a great deal of significance to be considered here.

Officials called offensive pass interference 86 times last season, or 0.34 times per game. That was up from 62 OPI calls in 2007. On the other side of the ball, defensive pass interference was called 172 times a year ago, 0.67 times per game, up just three from 2007.

Very revealing in that offensive pass interference has seen an uptick in the last two years while defensive pass interference calls have essentially been nearly indentical.

Very interesting to say the least.

Did you just compile these yourself or did you get the data from a source? I'm trying to figure out how the "touchy-feely" rules have affected the way that games are called. But I can't find the statistics anywhere.

No, I didn't do it myself. Crap, I can't find the link again now. Have been fishing everywhere to find further stats and lost my place. Admittedly, I'm not "great" at searches, but this one is exceptionally tough. If I find it again I'll post it.I did find this just now:

According to an analysis by The New York Times, 2006 marked the first time since 2001 that the overall number of penalties went down, instead of up. Penalties for offensive holding (down 34 percent) and defensive holding (down 32 percent) were among those showing the sharpest decline from 2005. Penalties for delay of game, defensive offside, false starts, pass interference and roughing the passer decreased at least 15 percent.
