in a league i commish a league mate and friend passed away earlier this week. i was trying to think of some ideas that the league could do for his widow. there are some things i will be doing to help the family out, but thought it would be nice for some sort of gesture from the league. i remember a similar post on here a while back, but couldn't seem to find it with the search. any ideas or help finding the other post would be appreciated.

One of our league mates (and great friends) passed away a few years back. We donated all of the league dollars to a charity he and his wife were close to...and named the league trophy after him.

RIP my friend...

I'm very sorry to hear the passing of your friend. May you and his family find peace and solace in your heart. A good idea to honor his memory is to name a division or trophy after him.

Sorry for your loss. We had that happen in our league a few years ago. My friend was young and left a wife and two kids. We donated all the dues that year to the family.

This happened 11 years ago in one of my leagues. The winners that year donated the winnings to a foundation for the guy's kids (it was only $600, but it was a nice gesture) and we named our Championship Trophy after him. Again, nothing earth-shattering, but he was a great guy and every year when someone gets the trophy it is another reminder of what a neat guy he was.

We had this happen in our league. Only a couple of us knew family but as a league we sent flowers to funeral and asked wife what charity to make donation in his name.

 Immadimwitty: Sorry to hear about the passing of your mate.

sorry i could not keep up with the replies since i was away from home. i wanted to thank everyone for the well wishes and ideas. it is very much appreciated. it is nice to see the kindness and concern from the fbg community. thanks again

This is inevitable for all of us at some point, but sucks nonetheless. Sorry to hear about your loss. If the family is in need, then donating all league fees would be a great gesture. Our league did that during the 9/11 year - I think it was a 5K+ check, so hopefully it did some good. If not, then a donation to charity, the SB trophy named after him, and maybe some presentation to the family would be great. Hang in there.
