Perhaps my favorite novelist. Everyone of his novels made my top 100 list. A lot of his non-fiction is great as well.

Fiction:

The Great Santini

The Lords of Discipline

The Prince of Tides

Beach Music

South of Broad

Non Fiction

The Boo

The Water Is Wide

My Losing Season

The Pat Conroy Cookbook

The Death of Santini

My Reading Life

Read Prince of Tides and Beach Music.  Both very good.  Master of prose.  RIP.

Which work did you like best?
The first work you read from someone is often the one that is most impactful. I read The Lords of Discipline while I was stationed in Charleston in the mid-80s. I'm not sure I've ever felt so invested in a character as Will McLean. The next thing I read was his memoir The Water is Wide, which was a real eye opener for me. Having lived in the Low Country for several years I was always keenly interested in anything he produced.

Favorite adaptation has to be The Great Santini. Duvall knocked it out of the park.

Tim, I like you but this has bothered me for a lttlle while -- please, please change your avatar! I cringe every time I see it and my immediate impulse is to vomit in my mouth. This is not about her politics because I consider myself a centrist. Could I ask you to please consider changing it back to the blues musician? TIA

Loved his books but looking at your list I realize there are several I haven't read.  Need to remedy that.  RIP.

All of them are worth while except for The Boo- don't bother with that- it's basically a bunch of stories about "The Bear" character from The Lords of Discipline- and not too particularly interesting.

I've read only the first four on your list.  Which would you recommend most highly of the others?
