From Adam Everett's Yahoo profile (latets news):

Apr 9 Rick Gano, of The Associated Press, reports the home run hit by Houston Astros SS Adam Everett Monday, April 9, was his 34th career home run, which is a club record for shortstops.
34 HR is the CAREER record for a team that's been around since the 60's?by the way, Dickie Thon hit 20 alone in 1983...

Before Frank Thomas came along the career home run leader for the White Sox was Harold Baines with 221. Baines is now 3rd behind Frank's 448 and Paul Konerko's 238.

Having been an Astros fan since 1980, let's run down the list of wonderful SS's we had over the yearsCraig ReynoldsDickie Thon ( Mike Torrez)Rafael RamirezEric YeldingAndujar CedenoOrlando MillerTim Bogar/Bill SpeiersRicky GutierrezJulio LugoMost of those guys had to play in the Astrodome which was just death on homeruns. In the 1984 season, Jose Cruz Sr led the team with 13 freaking homeruns. Shortstop has long been a problem for the Astros and there isn't anything on the way either. Since Torrez plunked Thon, there has been a black hole in the batting lineup at that position in Houston.

I agree. I was going back through the stats year by year at baseball-reference.com and I was amazed at how weak the Astro SS have been over the years. Seems to be a lot of defensive specialist types. They must have figured with the Astrodome limiting offense so much that they'd rather get good defense from the position. Orlando Miller hit 15 one year, which actually stood out in Astro history! With the park they play in now, you'd have to think it is only a matter of time before somebody comes along and tops Everett in two seasons. Then again, if Everett can consistently hit second in the order, maybe they aren't looking so hard for a big hitting replacement

If you see Everett up close, he looks like a beer vendor. He had to grow some facial hair so they'd stop carding him at the gate.

Everett's value is in his glove - he's money in the field but he's terrible at the plate. You can knock the bat out of his hands on most nights.

Exactly - combine that with Ausmus and the pitcher's slot and the 'Stros are playing with a 6-man batting order most nights.
