Yeah, people have been writing really sympathetic articles about the need for gallows humor at jobs like this in order to cope, etc.

Personally, I think they ought to just get a healthy heaping of understanding about the fragility of life and the care with which people treat their own lives, and I would recommend a heavy dose of shutting their mouths, which the judge and jury seemed to have agreed with.

In addition, it strikes me that the people that wrote those articles sympathizing with the anesthesiologist and her staff are the same type of people and editors that get off on publishing and reading the "WHAT YOUR WAITSTAFF REALLY THINKS OF YOU" type of article that only oversensitive morons take seriously and only bigger entitled idiots see fit to write.

We can do away with that crap, too. Here's a hint: Courtesy, respect, and shutting your mouth go a long way.

I'm a critical care RN in an ICU. Trust me when I say that after a few codes, body bags and 500 lb patients who refuse to follow directions, there is certainly a little bit of gallows humor needed.

That said, I've never been a part of, nor have ever seen anything remotely approaching what's described in this article.

The jury seemed a bit @nal in their decision, but man that is a nice trick when you can get the doctor to pay you $500k to allow her to stick things into your butt.

The only issue I have is them actually writing a diagnosis of hemorrhoids on the man’s chart, even though they knew it was a lie. Also, these two are pathetic people. That being said, I dont believe the man should have gotten paid for it.

Finally, they had a pretty poor attorney:

The doctors’ attorneys argued that the recording was illegal, but the man’s attorneys noted that Virginia is a “one-party consent” state, meaning that only one person involved in a conversation need agree to the recording.

Used to work with a heart surgeon who did his fat tax spiel every time he had an obese patient on the table. Can still remember it. Tractor trailers are charged higher taxes because they use more of the road. Fat people should be taxed more because they inevitably use more of the sidewalk.
