Not much too talk about here. Just wanted to share this story with my fellow ffguys. I play softball with him on Sundays in a league out of Rhode Island. He is our 3rd baseman and I play shortstop. I got to know him pretty well and he hits bombs. I remember the first practice I met him I said to myself "this guy is still in football shape and could probably still play." I guess I was right.. He called the manager of my softball team and says he can still play on sundays.... I highly doubt it.. FYI he got drafted out of college by the Marlins but decided to play football.

Patriots re-sign RB Patrick Pass

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) Running back Patrick Pass is returning to the New England Patriots.

The team said Thursday that it has signed a contract with Pass, who won three Super Bowls in seven seasons with the Patriots from 2000-2006.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. (MORE)

They may hold onto him, use him as a fullback, catch a few passes out of the backfield. It almost seems like the Pats sign twice as many players as other teams but then again it's the team I follow. They could sign a hobo and still get a few productive carries out him.

I heard the Pats were just looking for a power hitting 3rd baseman for their 4th of July picnic softball game.

You got robbed.

I've always liked Pass, and I know he's been popular with the coaches and his teammates, but I nonetheless will be a little bit surprised if he makes the team.

If the Pats don't plan on rostered Pass, why would they sign him? I guess we'll have to wait and see what his contract was like. If he sticks, that does not bold well for Dave Thomas or BJGE, as they will only keep so many TE or RB.

Why wouldn't they sign him? There's no true FB on the team (not that Pass necessarily is a "true FB"), Pass has played here before, he can fill several different roles, and there's no real financial/roster commitment involved. Might as well kick the tires. That being said, there are like 90 guys on the roster right now. There are some locks, some guys that we all assume will probably make the team, some guys who could go either way, some guys that are unlikely to make the team, and some guys that are fighting extremely long odds to make the team. I'd put Pass in the "guys that are unlikely to make the team" category.

I figure Taylor, Faulk, Morris, and Maroney all have a better shot to make the team. Since much of Pass's value comes from his ability to line up at FB, I think it's relevant to bring the TEs into this discussion as well (as you similarly did). I think Baker, Alex Smith, and Watson all clearly have a better shot to make the team.

After these guys, I'd say that Dave Thomas, BJGE, and Pass would be approximately on the same tier in terms of likelihood to make the final roster - but I think Thomas and BJGE get a slight edge given their ages.

I think Thomas is probably the key here... if he can stay healthy and show something, I think he makes the team as a 4th TE; if he gets banged up or shows inconsistency, I think he's out the door at this point.

How long has he been out of the league? The Pats are going all out this year. Patrick Pass is pretty much the most underrated guy there is. I see him possibly getting 30-40% of the snaps. The guy knows the playbook so he can pretty much start right now.

P.S. He is a pretty good blocker.

30-40%?

Well, we all know that the best player on men's softball teams play SS. Therefore, you should get a tryout with NE because Pass was only playing 3rd base.Where in RI?

No offense, but you are delusional.

Ok so Pat Pass told me this at softball and it jives with this article that just came out. Pass called the front office and he went up to Gillette last Wednesay at 7:30am and Belichick had him working out with the RBs at 2:30 that day. He had a great workout and before left that day he had a 1-yr deal.

FOXBOROUGH -- Running back Patrick Pass, who was part of Patriots Super Bowl championship teams in 2001, 2003, and 2004, drew a big media crowd following today's organized team activity.

Pass, who signed a one-year, $745,000 contract to return to the team last Thursday, had a few interesting stories.

Out of football for most of the last two seasons, the 31-year-old Pass set up his permanent residence in North Providence with his wife. He said he attended a few Patriots games over the last two years.

"I decided to root for the team. I was a fan and it was fun," he said after his third practice since returning to the team. "It was different sitting in the family section than being on the field.”

Pass, who will vie for a roster spot in a crowded backfield including Fred Taylor, Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis, also detailed how his opportunity to return to the Patriots arose.

He placed a call to Bill Belichick last Wednesday. Belichick's answer caught him off guard.

“It was surprising but you know, Bill, he’s one of the guys I respect a great deal. He’s not going to tell you anything he doesn’t believe to be true," Pass said. "I wanted to get his opinion and think about some of the things I wanted to do. If he thought I couldn’t play this game, he wouldn’t have given me a shot.”

Pass spent 2007 training camp with the Houston Texans but was cut before the season began. He said he weighed 245 pounds at camp -- the heaviest he's been -- and was mentally taxed as his mother was ill. Pass hooked on with the Giants for one midseason game (he didn't receive a Super Bowl ring for the one-game stint) and when he was released, he decided to focus on his family and put football on the back burner.

Now he's hoping to make the best of his return to New England.

"It was a happy homecoming," he said. "A lot of guys were happy to see me back, and I feel the same."

Small world. I play for Jogues.

For whatever it's worth, Mike Reiss doesn't think Pass will make the team either.

Sucks... all I know was this guy was always my starting FB in my Madden video games. It's all about having a fast FB... he was always rated like an 83 in speed. He'd hit the first guy so fast and it would leave my running back with amazing holes. Thank you for your skills Mr. Pass.

Pass's speed was actually underrated by the guys in Madden. A few years ago, I read that he was the fastest guy on the team. Probably should have been 90+.

Looks like you got your guy on the hot corner back.
