Patriots Cheating (1 Viewer)

Can't claim credit for this myself... but it does make sense.

Did Belichek WANT to get caught? We know he's not stupid, so why pull this trick against the one coach who would definitely watch for it? What benefit comes from getting caught? Especially week 1?

This PAtriots team was already pencilled in for the SB, and the last thing you want is a complacent team. By bringing this attention on himself, and making winning a matter of pride, Belichek has made sure this team will not be complacent. They are going to be driven to win every week to remove any question of whether they won before by cheating or being good.

Tom Brady said "The only statement we can make is on the field."

Ted Bruschi "I'm more proud of this win (vs. Chargers) than any in my career."

Think this team is focused? Is Belichek that brilliant?

I've never been a fan of Belichek or the Patriots, but I think this was a stroke of genius. They have 2 first round picks, losing one is NOT going to hurt them. And what team would NOT pay $750 million for a Super Bowl win?

Anyway you cut it, giving away a 1st round pick is not smart. I believe Belichick would be smart enough to find some other creative way to motivate his players than to actually hurt them long term which is what losing a 1st round pick would do.He also wouldn't do anything to tarnish the reputation to his legacy and the legacy of the Patriot organization. And regardless of the win last night or a win in the SB, he did. He cheated and I can already see the T-shirt in the SB; Cheaters always WINAnd not even Kraft can afford 750 million dollars for a SB

So you're saying it really was a ploy to motivate...

Sorry, don't buy it. It's too big a price for a little motivation.

I still say that, most likely, BB actually believed he found a loophole in the rule. It explains everything that happened. Think about it this way -- why else would NE be so brazen about it against the Jets? And if he found a loophole, he certainly wasn't going to ask the NFL to confirm it, since they'd just close the loophole the next chance they got.

If we're going to take the Fox Mulder approach and go with the conspiracy theories:How about: Belichick has been pushing for defenders to be miked up like QB's. Now that this has occurred, it looks like the competition committee will make a strong push to install this functionality in 2008 (Kraft plays a large role on that committee). Mission accomplished - though I'll bet BB paid a heavier price than he ever anticipated.

The second Mulder theory doesn't sound plausible either, based upon this info from Dr. Z:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...lbag/index.html

"Defensive radio communication was voted down at the league meetings. The Jets voted for it, the Patriots against."

So instead of confirming it with the league and having them close the loophole the next chance they got......he didn't confirm it with the league, got fined, lost a 1st round draft pick, tarnished his previous accomplishments, and any thought of any loophole was closed the first chance the league got.

BRILLIANT!! :wall:

and now they can get a 2nd #1 if they trade Asante and they didn't want to have 3.

It's all BS he would never want to get caught

LOL. Now, trading Asante for a high first would be brillant. Almost a middle finger to the commish...

If you're serious about this, you must be getting logic lessons from Chase Stewart.

BB did what he's always done, used what he had. This came up, so he used it to motivate the team, if it didn't he would have used something else.

This is something I think many people don't realize about the Patriots. Most teams will look at their major strength and try to figure out how they are going to do that against whomever they are playing. The Patriots will game plan almost entirely for the situation. They look at what their strengths are, and what the other team's weaknesses are, and game plan for it so much so that they will completely change their style of offense or defense. If it isn't working during the game, they change things to what is working, or what is open. They build as well a balanced team as they can, and then exploit what is given to them.

This year they have an amazing passing offense, so they are going to use it as long as it's working. If a team is successfully playing our passing attack, then they will go to the run.

If you want to figure out who is going to do well fantasy wise, figure out what the other team won't be able to stop, and right now, not many teams can stop their passing attack.

He did it becasue he thinks he can. Its like "Ya, I know the rules, but Im Belichick, If I want to I will, and if I get caught, I get caught." He is so arrogant and full of himself, he doesnt even look down on it like he did wrong. "I missed interperted the rules" How do you misinterpert that?

I've got to say that this is the most likely explanation. And I'm a Pats homer.

Yeah, not the smoothest move on his part, but it still fits. BB seems like the kind of guy who can rules-lawyer anything to death and it wouldn't occur to him that (a) he could be wrong or (b) he could get punished for it.
