Patriots WR Joey Galloway has been released

The Patriots have released struggling receiver Joey Galloway, The Boston Herald has learned. With the trade deadline still hours away, it appears the team has actually done him a favor.

Because he was cut before 4 p.m., Galloway isn’t subject to waivers. He can now choose his team. And that’s pretty classy.

For the veteran, it was a difficult season. He has been inactive for the past three games, all healthy scratches. He has struggled to get on the same page with QB Tom Brady, making just seven catches for 67 yards.

he's done. one of the few misfires from the NEP.
I disagree on the done part (but I agree he won't be a huge producer no matter where he goes). He didn't fit in New England and never adapted to their system. You can't put a square peg in a round hole and expect things to work right.I think he could go somewhere and run a few routes that he runs somewhat well and let the QB hit him if he's open. In New England, they expected him to cut off routes and think on his feet, something that he has not had to do much before. He could probably catch on as a third receiver somewhere, but fantasy wise I doubt he'll make much impact.

Look for Dallas to bring him back. He's old, but he's better than Crayton, would be their third option right away.

Another tidbit, fwiw:

Assuming that team wants him. I'm not sure that there's going to be a ton of suitors. He was a free agent in the off season and IIRC not a lot of teams were knocking down his door to sign him. I don't think his performance on the Pats really improved his stock any.

I doubt it. They may have found someone better than Crayton in Miles Austin. Besides, he's a 37 year old receiver with injury problems. His quickness is gone. Only some team that had 2 or more receivers go down because of injury would be interested.

if I'm Galloway, I'd have to think about retiring before going to Clev or back to TB.....

Switz please. You are talking out of your butt.

He's a 37 year old WR that was know for speed.../thread.

He is not going anywhere except for the booth on some random pre-game show.

Timed with Brandon Tate coming off PUP today.
I doubt Tate will come off the PUP today. And from what I have heard if Tate comes back this year it would likely be to play special teams more than as receiver.
Tate's at least eligible to do so, and BB commented that Tate might practice this week. As Galloway was nothing more than practice body, I see Tate taking over that role (at least in the short-term before he gets up to speed).

The Patriots have had their share of misfires.
Especially at the receiver position -- Donald Hayes, David Terrell, Chad Jackson, etc.
Patten, Givens... etc.
I wish all their "misfires" could be as good as Givens was. 7th round pick who was a rock-solid throughout his time in NE. I seem to remeber him being a strong post season performer as well.

Except that they signed Sam Aiken (formerly of Buffalo).
Aiken has been with NE since 2008. Not sure what Aiken's extension has to do with a roster spot. :lmao: If I need to google to back up all that I am stating...

2. Wide receiver Joey Galloway may be particularly interested in Tate’s situation. If Tate proves he is healthy enough to play and able enough to contribute, Galloway’s tenure in New England could be over. Galloway has been a healthy scratch in each of the last three games. As it currently stands, Moss and Welker aren’t going anywhere, and neither is rookie wideout Julian Edelman. Fourth-string wide receiver Sam Aiken is the special teams captain, so he is secure, too. If Tate -- who could be a force on special teams -- is activated, there is no reason to believe the Patriots would keep six wide receivers, meaning Galloway would be the odd man out.
