Patriots time to pay up $$$ (1 Viewer)

Dman30

Footballguy
New England will soon realize the harsh reality of free agency, players want market value and don't play for peanuts, not even for your team as hard as that is to believe. You pick up players on the cheap, but when successful these players will take you to the cleaners. Welcome to salary cap hell NE :goodposting:

We need to start a poll to decide if DMan30 = the ex-Mrs. Bill Belichick. I have no other explanation for his consistent, venomous assult on New England.

If I had more time I could surgically address this and put this in its place. But I don't, so we will all have to endure more Pats bashing.

Don't even bother DY.

yes, you can see the trend over the past few years with the success the Pats have had ..........
:lmao: How have they done turning over the roster since beating STL? Just fine. They may have to let some players leave, but they'll simply pick up different "players on the cheap" to surround Brady and be fine. And I'm not a Pats fan or homer.

I have a friend of mine that has argued the same thing for years. So we already know how those arguments have turned out. His position all along has been that they were lucky to win their first title and would not ever = NEVER win another championshp beyond that. Whoops.I will say that while I agree with many of their decisions along the way, I do not condone some of the way they have parted ways with players (or th way they have negotiated with them).

I am merely reporting news coming out of Boston, itself. Do I dislike the Pats, of course just like I dislike any cheater in this world. I don't have to like every team in the NFL. While everyone is heaping praise on NE, everyone loses sight they are convicted cheaters and treat their core players like crap once they are done using them, ask Lawyer Milloy, Cory Dillon, Willie McGinest, etc.

Again, I don't condone how they have parted ways with people, but for the most part how ell have some of these guys done away from New Engalnd? How poorly has NE been without them?

This board is becoming a total joke. Are they any TRUE NFL fans left on this forum?

Hey DMan30! What team is it you root that makes you so angry? I've asked you 4 times now and you still haven't responded.

You are merely reporting it? Merely reporting it would be leaving a link and not laying out your jealousy with it to follow.

And the article in question is written by one of the Boston media known to be uber critical with a Chicken Little mentality. It's funny listening to him at night because he BASHED the Pats for months prior to the season on how Moss would be a 100%, certified, unmitigated DISASTER, would destroy the team, would put up numbers like he did in Oakland, and would not make it through the season on the Pats roster and would be flat out released.

While he is someone with all access to the Pats situation, I have a hard time buying into his sky is always falling mentality. Maybe Dman = Felger.

It's a legit question and article.Title is
Pats face pricey futureMoss, Samuel top expense list
Are you saying New England doesn't face some price issues in the future? I would say they do.No team has been better at navigating the salary cap minefield. But questioning how they'll continue this is a legit question. Lots of teams and fans can learn from this. J

You're not close to remotely saying Felger was out on a limb in bashing the Moss signing though are you David?J

Good posting. They have been the master at making the hard business decisions cutting loose players with lots of sentimental attachments. Was it Ty Law where people were predicting total team implosion? And they got beat badly in the first game? And then they went on to have a great year. They've made great decisions. Not popular but definitely the decisions that keep the winning.J

Certainly Felger was not alone in questioning the Moss signing and the potential impact on the team. I think many people at least had questions and concerns. I had been hearing a lot about Moss coming to NE even LAST YEAR and how the brass was confident that Moss would fit like a glove. At the time (even on the boards) I felt that Moss would end up a Patriots and was not surprised in the least when they traded for him.As for Felger, I don't have any problem with him questioning the decision to obtain Moss, but he went out of his way for an extended period taking his shots at the signing and it got worse as he went along. Sure, like anyone else, he's entitled to his opinion, but IMO he went out of his way to take other topics and somehow get them spun around to get on his anti-Moss soap box. I guess it makes for good theater on tv, but it gets tiresome after awhile. And I don't totally disrespect him as a member of the media. I think he reports decent information and tidbits on the team, but like Ron Borges did for years there was definitely a negative spin on most stories and some loose interpretations as to what things meant. In this case, I agree that the Pats again will have some tough personnel decision to make this off season (including some the team made far worse when they could have already had guys locked up). But it's "the team will self-destruct" mantra that I think is a bit over the top (at least for me personally). The other odd thing is that he filled the airwaves/pages with plenty of comments and material on how Moss was going to be a disaster, so to listen to him after a 4 TD game and openly applaud him is funny, but he will still look to stir the pot on how the deal will ultimately not work out. To which I ask, how many more wins could the Pats have at this point?

Seriously. Most health plans cover therapy. You should really take a look at your options there. This is unhealthy.

New England won't "soon realize" anything. If you think this is suddenly springing up on them like "surpise" then you are sorely mistaken.

I don't see how any of this puts them into any "cap hell." You have to have bloated salaries and no cap space with an underperforming team and no relief in sight to be in any sort of cap hell.

Who has or will take them to the cleaners? Someone give me a list.

:lmao: My first thoughts were also along the lines of an unhealthy fixation. DMan30, when I get stressed out from work and the wife, I play chess. After a few victories against the computer I feel much better. I highly recommend finding a constructive outlet for your frustrations.

It was Lawyer Milloy that you are referring to the year he went to Buffalo. They went into Buffalo and got embarrised.See I see what the Patriots do differently. They do not put themselves into a situation where they are cap strapped by overpaying for aged Veterans. While everyone wants to say that they should have a loyalty to their players, by the same tolken shouldn't the players hold out some loyalty to the team as well? This year offseason they are going to have to make some tough decisions. Moss will be resigned and I believe will take below market value to stay with the team. Samuel will go after his payday and I do not think the Patriots will match the offer. They will instead go after someone else or let Merryweather have a shot at it. Stallworth probably will be gone at the end of this year and they will let Jackson or Gaffne have more playing time next year.Look at what the other players that left New England have done since they leftLawyer Milloy- was a solid player for Buffalo but I would rather have had Rodney Harrison Damien Woody was a pro bowl player with the Patriots, was never the same player after he leftDavid Givens played several games with Tenn and has not played in two yearsDion Branch- he played well in spurts for Seattle and but has been to injured since leavingTy Law- Went to the pro bowl for Kansas City last year and led the league in interceptions.Willie McGinnest- he signed with Cleveland and been banged up all season.Corey Dillon- stayed retired all seasonNow a lot of you Patriot bashers would like to say that they do not have any loyalty toward their players, or could it be that they did not want to sign long term contracts for players that were a product of the system and getting up there in age? With the exception of Ty Law there is not another player that they released that has had a solid season some place else. Having said that the Patriots do have loyalty to players that have shown loyalty to the team. Troy Brown is past his prime but is still a member of the Patriots. Teddy Bruschi was going to have to retire because of his stroke and Bob Kraft would have still paid him his full salary.

I wouldn't take what that screaming woman attenion whore Michael Felger writes too seriously

I take it you are not familiar with Felger?

in other news, "No Way The Patriots are THIS good again next year!"

they will lose some players.

they will draft, develop, and sign new players.

and they will continue to be a winning franchise so long as Kraft, Pioli, Belichick, and Brady are around.

Your use of commas, disturbs me.

Never cared for Felger or Gresch.. uber media, ha. They are exemplary of the detritus scum that inevitably floats around the edges of a story. Not always, but the tendency is there. I'm surprised at the Patriot haters and brand new lovers that have popped up out of the woodwork, like mushrooms in the forest, some good, some bad, some hallucinating. Some people just feed off of hate and it consumes them. The Patriots are not cheaters. The Patriots are the best team in football without cheating. Belichick is one of the best coaches in football if not the best. Brady is the best qb in football or second best. They play with a strong team philosophy and have many character players like Vrabel, Harrison, Seau, Bruschi, Brady, Light etc... If these facts are that bothersome I'd suggest a spiritual retreat or a day spa, a hug, whatever. For those of you that want to go in a different direction... I've had Sirius radio in my car and I think its very good in that it's majority of content is football centered and how its played.

Its cold and lonely at the top. But now its also more expensive, too??

Its actually becoming less and less annoying reading these threads where its pretty evident the main intention is to simply flare the word "cheater" around a few times to describe the Patriots whenever possible. I almost admire it because its just so persistent. Sometimes its even a little interesting. Almost. What it actually is just unnessecary.

The article attempts to create a tempest in a teapot by building its case around the big numbers which may be required to retain Moss, Stallworth, Samuel and Wilfork. Moss will make his choice, Stallworth and Samuel will leave, and Wilfork will get paid. Pats will trade down the SanFran pick, grab a mid first corner, and pocket an 09 1st round pick or better. I'm not getting how this equates to salary cap hell.

In general I agree but my choice of adjectives would include sad, pathetic, hypocritical, biased, uninformed, hateful, inaccurate, immature, prejudicial, ignorant, and steeped in jealousy. Fortunately, the adjective irritating has lost some of its validity.

Wasn't Felger the one with the piece where he went out of his way to dig up Shell & the Raider's ex-ex-OC and B&B owner? The one where Shell & Mr. Howard Johnson say how the public doesn't see Moss and practice, they don't see how he's lost that extra step, he's not the same player, etc. That is a priceless article.

I really agree with your take on Felger. In the last two-three years he's really gone out of his way to stress the negative (the Moss bashing has really bitten him in the butt). He's not like Ron Borges who's hatred of BB was fanatical and due to that he turned himself into a joke as he basically became delusional. Felger isn't as over the top but it's almost like his reporting is becoming somewhat of an act. Everything is the glass is half-empty and he seems to relish being Mr.Negative. There was a time when I found his directness and ability to see both sides refreshing but lately he's become very predictable and is too often focused on the downside. It seems like ever since he got his own radio gig on ESPN he has been trying to carve out an identity to separate him from the juggernaut that is WEEI.Also, Felger is obsessed with discussing the future as far as the salary cap is concerned. He has written this type of article a few times which on the surface can be informative. Yet, he always takes the sky is falling angle and when it comes to the Patriots managing the salary cap is about the least of my concerns. The fact that it's year 7 of the Patriots being an elite team and the fact the roster has been turned over the way it has while still staying on top would give every indication that this franchise is quite aware of how to play for today without pissing away tomorrow.
