Pats got lucky with that fumble when all the kick returner had to do was go down before being touched. How the special teams coach did not have him prepped for that is beyond me.
Still, the Pats had to score a TD and they did. Then the D held when Buffalo only needed a FG to win and had two timeouts.
I'll take 'lucky and good' every time if it means 1-0.
The OL concerns me going forward, though.
I know the ST coach has the kid's ear, but the coach needs to teach game awareness to his guys. It boggles my mind when silly, silly plays like this happen. I know the kids are young and filled with adrenaline and want to do everything they can to win, but you just have to use your head!!!
Ball security is the ONLY goal in this situation. Second is to waste time. Running it out was very, very good. Got the clock running. Now, go down as soon as the traffic gets thick. He more than likely would've gotten it to the 2:00 warning if he went down right before the hit. Even after the hit, he still has the ball BUT FIGHTS FOR MORE YARDS?!?!?! One or maybe two yards doesn't help your team at all. The ONLY thing that matters is hold onto the ball. Iam continuously amazed that players are that dumb. This time it cost a game. It cost the Chargers a trip to the SB a few years ago. That starts with the HC. If Jauron was on the hot seat that could very well get him fired. He should've let the ST coach or the kid that if he loses the ball he's out of a job. I don't know why that bugs me so much tonight, I'm sure there'll be countless other examples this season.
