Patriots vs. Bills (1 Viewer)

Pats got lucky with that fumble when all the kick returner had to do was go down before being touched. How the special teams coach did not have him prepped for that is beyond me.

Still, the Pats had to score a TD and they did. Then the D held when Buffalo only needed a FG to win and had two timeouts.

I'll take 'lucky and good' every time if it means 1-0.

The OL concerns me going forward, though.

WOW. Nice comeback by the Pats, but I get the strong feeling they've lost their dominance. They're going to have to scratch & claw like everybody else now (even with Brady). Trent Edwards absolutely ate them up. Without the drops & killer penalties by Buffalo's offense, we're looking at an upset.BTW, what you saw might be the coming of age of one of the best young QBs in the NFL. And the no-huddle is a stroke of genius for the Bills because it protects their OL. Edwards is one of the few QBs in the NFL who can actually run a no-huddle the whole game. Needless to say, he's a bright kid. Their OL broke down a little bit at the end, but they're really young up front. Those guys will get much better. If Buffalo keeps progressing, I look for them to be a real force by the end of next season. I believe they'll surpass the Pats sometime during that span.
I love what I saw from Trent, and from Jackson. But my concern is still the coaching.

What are the chances McKelvin joins Rhodes, Schonert, and Walker and gets cut tomorrow? Bills seems quick to get rid of dead weight this year...

Patriots did not deserve this win, PERIOD.BUT this was classic Buffalo Bills football, to a tee. Living in WNY my whole life it has always been the same dam thing... they either suck or they CON you into thinking they might be good.At 24-19, I was like... hmmm INT? 3 and out... didn't think the Bills schtick would hit so quickly. Never at any given time did I think the Bills would win. McKelvin... he can get a 3rd round pick from a team and I would do it in a heart beat. In a game that means so much to a franchise that has been so down in the past decade, he fumbles the rock.If Donald Trump owned the team... MCKELVIN... your FIRED! You suck and GOODBYE you lost the Bills the game that might of helped them turn the corner.Patriots get another win handed to them...
Not sure I agree with this. The Pats caused the fumble and made plays when they had to. Even if you don't like the Pats, you have to admit that they are not a team you want to give a lot of chances. The Bills had the game in their hands and lost it. The Pats won the game fair and sqaure.
They won fair and square... but in no way did they deserve to win.The Bills will NEVER be anything more then the slop of a franchise they are now and its sad. The Patriots were handed the win. Congrats to them, but the headline should read "McKelvin lead the Bills to a spectacular LOSS." Not any other way.BTW Patriots should be somewhat alarmed... the Bills are NOT a good team... period. Don't know what is in store for the Patriots when they actually play a team that is in the top 20, not the bottom 10.

Tom Brady is such a tool. Can't hear you Suze, too crazy in here.I really wish they would have lost.
Sucks to be you then.
Brady does a press conference after the game. He has been interviewed endlessly before the season opener. Does he really need to stick around for a useless question from Suzy Kolber?
Yes. It takes an extra 60 seconds and it's a very common practice. He is a tool for blowing her off.

Blah blah blah. Let's talk in January/February.

Oh wait, here's one of you in the survivor league telling everyone "WOW...just cracked 210. Need to save some of these points." Thanks for the team update!

Nice of the refs to just push first downs when it was clearly short...aside from that Buffalo blew it themselves.
I did notice that as well. Seemed way short and suddenly they had a first down without even a measurement. Whatever. That wasn't on the refs. The Bills had that game and that moron McKelvin blew it. He had one of the worst overall games I've ever seen. There's no way he should be starting over Reggie Corner. I'd rather see him on the bench.

Deserving wins is overrated. I'll take a win however I can get it. Besides, history really doesn't remember the flow of the game -- just the outcome.

Yo knob....One or two is fine, but after several posts about the guys team or a repost of the stat line it got tiring. The last post you quoted was from a thread dedicated to discussing that league in a forum dedicated to that purpose....it wasn't in this thread.

Lifelong WNY'er and Bills fan here

This was a classic Jauron Bills loss. They always find a way under jauron to come out with the most, heart wrenching, sould crushing way too lose a football game.

There's the Dallas Cowboys monday nighter, the Browns sunday nighter last year, and now this

It's going to be more of this crap until they get rid of this bum.

He is the worst coach I've ever seen. He doesn't even SAY anything on the sideline let alone coach!!!

Pathetic

No way you can put this on Jauron. Absolutely no way. This one's on the players.

I think Jauron has got an awful lot out of not much talent in the last couple seasons. This franchise could easily be a Browns or Lions, but they are a LOT better than that.

That is is 12 straight against Buffalo and sets an NFL record.
Chargers are right behind with 11 if they can aome back against the Raiders.Seahawks tacked up their 9th straight against the Rams.I can't even imagine a team losing for over five years twice a year. Jeez

I was disappointed. I expected the Bills to at least drive down to field goal range at the end and kick one wide right. That would be more their style, anyway.

Nah I'd say make it but get called for illegal formation and then hit the crossbar on 2nd attempt.

I know the ST coach has the kid's ear, but the coach needs to teach game awareness to his guys. It boggles my mind when silly, silly plays like this happen. I know the kids are young and filled with adrenaline and want to do everything they can to win, but you just have to use your head!!! Ball security is the ONLY goal in this situation. Second is to waste time. Running it out was very, very good. Got the clock running. Now, go down as soon as the traffic gets thick. He more than likely would've gotten it to the 2:00 warning if he went down right before the hit. Even after the hit, he still has the ball BUT FIGHTS FOR MORE YARDS?!?!?! One or maybe two yards doesn't help your team at all. The ONLY thing that matters is hold onto the ball. Iam continuously amazed that players are that dumb. This time it cost a game. It cost the Chargers a trip to the SB a few years ago. That starts with the HC. If Jauron was on the hot seat that could very well get him fired. He should've let the ST coach or the kid that if he loses the ball he's out of a job. I don't know why that bugs me so much tonight, I'm sure there'll be countless other examples this season.

You're totally right. I love that the Bills board (which I don't have the nerve to visit at the moment) is undoubtedly all over the decision to run it out, but that was 100% correct as burning those 6 sec's would've been huge. Like the Chargers DB in the NE playoff game though he has 1 job: hang on to the ball. Unbelievable that he could fail at that.

The Bills lost to the Dolphins during the entire decade of the 70s. I guess we only played them once a year back then?

Nope, it was twice a year so 20 straight losses: Link, most of the way down the pageThe Pats have a long way to go.

Pretty sure the 49ers had like 17 over the Rams too. I dunno wtf made up that stat.

Tom Brady looked rusty while throwing for 378 yards, 2 TDs and an interception in a comeback win where he had to lead not one, but two touchdown drives in less than six minutes. I'm so happy to have him back.

Great game by the Bills. Really had the Pats on the ropes. Edwards showed a lot, Owens looked like he was getting the team pumped up and he made a couple clutch plays late in the game, Jackson looked great replacing Lynch, and Schobel is just a beast. I'm happy with the win but really impressed by the Bills coming out of this game.

As far as predicting future performance goes, the only positives I take out of this game for the Bills is that the rookie Guards weren't bad and the pass-rush was much better than I expected. Other than that it was an "everything went right yet we still lost" sort of game which assures me we're gonna suck again this year. Next game against the Pats there's going to be no defensive TD, no breaks with the officials, no missed 40 yard FG's, and no 4th&short stops. Trent played his B+ game which is fine yet not great. Freddy J. is a man but we already knew that.

I'm sick that the Bill's lost this one too. But all Brady said was, "That wasn't the way we drew it up, but I'll take it.", and then commented on how poorly they did some things. That's being a jerk?

Gotta disagree. The Pats looked rusty as hell for the first half. Mayo goes out early with an injury and never comes back. Yes, the Bills had it in their hands. The difference was the Pats D starting to come on as the game progressed and stripping that ball out of McKelvin's arms causing the turnover. McKelvin didn't just drop it, they took it from him and from there the Pats looked like "the Pats."As a Pats fan, I'm thrilled to get out with the win obviously, but it's going to be a long season for us, I think.

Tough break for the Bills; they played their hearts out (Edwards, Jackson, Schobel more than worthy of honorary mentions).

Pats run D still looks like crap.

Timing with Welker will come....run game looks solid, Moss is Moss.

Looks like Ben Watson wants to play this year. There goes my deep sleeper Baker concept.

I sense tension between Brady and the offensive playcaller / qbs coach. Imagining things? Perhaps.

Joey Galloway: WTF?!?

I was very surprised the whistle hadn't been blown by then, and in one replay it looked like his knee was down (for the record I don't think it was down)...But IMO, he was stopped, in 99% of the cases, the whistle would have been blown and play stopped, as forward progress was clearly stopped. Bills gave the game away, but the refs helped them along with it.

:football: Just stop. He's fighting for extra yards. There isn't a single ref at any level of football who blows that play dead. NONE. You're embarrassing yourself by claiming otherwise.

And the Wilfork tackle in the end zone was clearly roughing the passer, even though he had his facemask in friendlytown, and the Banta-Cain sack was clearly roughing the passer even though the whistle wasn't called and Edwards was fighting to stay up. Those game changing plays were called completely correctly. The refs were clearly pro-Patriot all the way.

You're embarrassing yourself and showing how little you know about football to say no one would have blew that play dead, it's happened tons of times.Just be happy that the Pats got a win there, because they really didn't win it, they had it handed to them.
As opposed to your objectivity regarding the Patriots?

McKelvin should have downed it in the endzone, trying to return it was his mistake, not the Patriots.

The Colts site 18to88.com has what I think is an insightful view of week 1 for the AFC contenders. Link

What is most relevant based on this game is this, which is what I thought was going to happen this season:

New England fans should get used to more games like last night. We've seen it in Indianapolis. Teams aren't going to let you fly up and down the field. Prepare for long mind numbing drives with lots of 5 yard dump throws, while you hope your defense can hold up. Teams don't want to "die quick".
This is why I thought many were way too excited about the 3rd pre-season game when Moss was single-covered by the Redskins - and thought that is how Ds will play the Pats in regular season games. Not going to be the case most weeks. Colts fans have seen this for years since 2005. Most teams would rather die by 1000 paper cuts than by a few deep knife cuts.

Adrian Peterson would rush for about 50 yards less per game if refs blew the whistle when you think they should.
