Someone will use an 08 first day pick on Oliver...
I've been thinking about this. He may have had a better shot at the third in the real draft than in the supplemental. He did have a 4th round grade
this year, and for the most part those grades are optimistic. This was a weak draft. It is an advantage to use a pick
supplementally, get a player a year early, and have the time to develop him.
The academic suspension has to hurt his value some (lowers the existing 4th round grade).
Healthy, he would have gained ground on that grade if he could play out his senior season. Gaines Adams had a 4th round grade the year before and we all know what he did.
Next year is a balanced, deep draft. As always, it depends on 40-50 underclassmen to be reeeal deep. I would tentatively rank Oliver 3rd among returning senior CBs. It's a tight group in the top 5 behind Cason, and I would listen to an argument for him being ranked 2nd (where I have Chevis Jackson). But the underclassmen that surpass him may number a half dozen or more.
I liked Oliver last year. He needs an outstanding private work out for a team to cough up an 08 first day pick.
