At Rotoworld:

A video of Pedro Martinez and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal at a cockfight was posted this week on YouTube.

The two took part as honorary "soltadores," the word used to describe the person who puts the animal to fight. Cockfighting is legal in the Dominican Republic, where the incident took place, so Pedro doesn't have to worry about joining Michael Vick in prison. Still, the Mets can't be happy about the publicity this is going to bring.

I saw the video yesterday before it was pulled.Little Jerry Seinfeld didn't do so well. One rooster pecked the living daylights out of the other. The crowd was filled with children & families. Seemed like a big deal in that country. Just like bull fighting and horse racing to an extent. Not illegal in Pedro's country. And I'm sure the Mets PR company was busy yesterday trying to get it off youtube.

This is going to be an interesting issue although I dont expect it to blow up. In his nation cockfighting is legal and obviously culturally accepted and you will then have the issue of dogfighting surely tied in and how why it is illegal here, there are cultures even within our country where it is accepted and I could see that becoming a side bar issue in this.

This is a non-issue for me but I am sure there will be large groups of people making this into an issue here in the US. As a country we are not very accepting of other cultures.

Complete non-issue. I sit in a a cockfight everytime I visit my grandparents in Puerto Rico. Its just a way of life down there.

The New York hispanic community is not going to care about this at all.

Horse racing always has had its problems with horses breaking down and being put out of their misery, but no one ever wants to injure or kill a horse. With bull fighting & dog/#### fighting that is the whole idea of the "sport".

If this were Bonds he'd be put in jail. Now is a good time for Pedro to walk away from the game....unbelievable.

We're the most accepting history in the history of this universe of other cultures. Other than that you're dead on.

Jesus.I'm not outraged by this, but pulling the 'accept other cultures' bit every time this happens is dumb. A lot of other cultures accept completely inhumane practices. We SHOULDN'T be all that accepting of it.

PETA Tells Pedro -- Go Cluck Yourself!

Pedro Martinez was caught on camera tossing roosters into a cockfight -- and now, PETA is throwing a high, hard one back at him for the deed.

In a letter obtained by TMZ, PETA slams Pedro for setting "a terrible example" for fans, especially the kids, and points out that Major League Baseball discourages its players from gambling of any kind.

What's more, say the animal-rights folks, roosters used in cockfights have their spurs shaved off and replaced by razors, and they're pumped with steroids to make them more aggressive -- sounds a lot like baseball!

The future Hall of Famer was pictured bringing roosters into the ring as an honorary saltador, with Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal. Cockfighting is legal in Martinez' native Dominican Republic. The Mets had no comment this afternoon.
