Pedro Martinez (1 Viewer)

If I am the Mets, I do not want to see the Phillies or Houston come my way, IF THEY GET IN. But you are right, as of right now, the Mets are the NL favorite.

Come Tuesday Morning, I can not say the same thing probably. I don't want to hear about Delgado, Beltran, Wright, ect. Pitching wins in the playoffs, not hitting. It has been proven for years. The Mets pitching staff is average right now. Plain and simple.

Tell that to the Angels a few years back. The Mets rotation has been average all year. If they make it to the Series anything can happen. The Yankees pitching is average. Outside of Santana, the Twins pitching is average. Detroit doesn't scare anyone with their pitching.Sorry, but no one really has enough pitching to be the favorite this year.

Mets no longer the team to beat in the NL w/o Pedro.
Mets = Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Beltran.San Diego =
i am glad to see this cloud over the heads go away. at least now they wont have to worry about who is starting. hopefully their lineup can put up those early runs like they have all year.

Padres = Peavy, Young, Meridith, Hoffman
El Duque has a very nice record against the Padres, and Wagner is as good as Hoffman. That said, I wouldn't bet the farm on the Mets in a 7 game series. Both play in pitcher's parks, their 6 games have all been pretty close this year (Mets have won 4 of 6, but Pedro had two of those wins. However, the only guy the Padres really touched up was the dear departed Zambrano). Losing Pedro hurts, as it means they have to rely on Trachsel, but I would side with the Padres not having enough firepower to take advantage of Pedro's absence. But it's no lock, the Mets run differential suggests that they aren't as good as their record.
I agree that it will be a close series. As a homer, I have to point out that the Padres are playing their best baseball of the year right now, 18-8 in Sept, while the Mets have been struggling, 12-15 in Sept.Delgado and Beltran are ice cold right now, and despite Met homers saying they're glad to know Pedro is gone, it's a huge blow to the Mets staff to not have a healthy Martinez ready to dominate a short playoff series. On the other hand, Jake Peavy is finally healthy after having missed time earlier this season, and Young is the hardest pitcher in the NL to hit. In a short series, with the best bullpen in the NL, those two horses can go a long way.Should be a great NL playoffs this year - I'm just praying the Cards hold off Houston.

Yep - my homerism is really derailing the Padres chances thus far this year....

That has to be because you're only doing it when they're not playing the NL Central.

Only two teams that scare me are Philly and Houston. Lets hope neither makes it and the Mets will be fine
