Pennington reportedly out for season per Mort (1 Viewer)

Chris Morenson from ESPN reported that Pennington is out for season. Does this effect their running game? If so, is it good for running game or bad?

If true I don't think it affects running game at all as they were already very run heavy. I may want to take a flyer on Henne though and stash him on my bench if there were room.

Henne is getting thrown in before they thought, it seems. Every cloud has its silver lining in life, and that could be it for the Dolphins. I am a believer in Henne's abilities as a QB and given time with the first team offense, he'll perform. It's just a matter of how long it will take.

Feel bad for Chad...

Given the Dolphins are 0-3 and figure to not improve, I wonder how long they give Henne before trying Pat White. Is this a carbon copy of Josh Johnson/Freeman? Any advantage Henne had over White (comfortable with the offense, etc.) is pretty much negated by the team being pretty much out of it.

I feel bad for Pennington - dude cannot buy a break (no pun intended). All world noggin, Mr. Glass body. Whether you believe he is injury prone or not, the guy always is dinged up. He honestly has had half a career.

The 2009 Miami Dolphins - All Wildcat, all the time.
All losses all day long. The Jets D is salivating over the 2 shots to destroy Henne in the next 5 weeks.Check that. Give us a shot at Pat White and we will take 3 of his misfires to the house.

Sucks for Pennington and I feel bad for him, but Henne was going to be our QB by midseason at the rate things were going regardless. This is more time to find out what we have in him. This team isn't going to be very good this year if Henne cannot perform, but we aren't far off.

If Henne doesn't have the respect of the D (8 in the box) I would think it would hurt the running game.

Pat and TIm on Sirius NFL radio were VERY impressed with Henne this year. SAid he was making good reads and getting rid of the ball in about 2 seconds. I think he may surprise a lot of people this year.

Pennington never threw it past the linebackers, so the Fins have been seeing plenty of that anyway.

Yeah the future is now for the Henne and the Dolphins. I have a ton of confidence the kid has the goods. He can make all the throws. He just needs to settle in and get used to working with all the starters. He also needs to work on his accuracy a bit but other than that long term this should help Ginn and the deep ball and the fact that defenses will soon (not right away) have to respect the Dolphins intermediate and deep passing game. It has been non-exsistent since Marino's time.

Pat White is totally not even close to being ready and now is elevated to the #2 spot. If I were the Dolphins I would be calling Ken Dorsey to come in and mentor White (and Penny will as well be it from the IR) and be our new #3.

Finally we will now find out what we have (in Henne) and discover if we made a collosal mistake in not taking Matt Ryan over Jake Long. We love Jake down here, he is a stud LT in the making but the golden rule is you take the franchise QB over any position if that is what you need. This regime felt they would get that with Henne.

To be continued......

Except Pennington hadn't done anything to keep defenses honest this year either. And at least Henne is a threat to throw deep once in a while. Also, I see them using the Wildcat more often and that is their most effective rushing formation by far. I think this helps the running game.

I feel for Chad... But, the guy is incredibly Brittle and that was one of the reasons why I was done with him as a Jets QB for a while now - Nice year last year but, that was really a miracle health wise and when it came down to it, he's not the guy to beat a top Defense.

I was looking forward to payback and a rematch though.

Probably best thing for the Dolphins right now. Avoid a controversy and get Henne in there ASAP.

Henne has had plenty of time to sit and watch.

Gosh, I just don't know how the 'Phins will find room to run the ball without defenses terrified of Pennington beating them over the top.

At 0-3 and the playoffs probably out of the picture, this figures to be a blessing in disguise for Miami. Might as well see what Henne's got.

Yeah, I think Brown's value just took a thud..
Good point. Nobody stacks the box against Miami with Pennington under center.

take it from a Browns fan, you should not do that.

Henne is the Dolphins QB of the future, not Pat White.

I think it comes down to success. Henne has the raw tools to be successful. If he can make some plays, he can probably hold on to the job. White is not going to be used as a traditional QB, I always thought he was brought in to be an added dimension to the Wildcat, and Uber-Slash type of player if you will. I don't think an injury to Pennington changes that. Henne will now be the primary signal caller in my opinion. Of course I am mainly just using logic here and speculating. With Henne's arm being far superior to Pennington's, guys like Bess and Ginn might make a jump though. They will be able to run further than 15-25 yards on patterns, which should really benefit a speedster like Ginn.

Well at least this might bump Ginn's value a smidgen .... Henne doesn't have the dead arm that CP has.
Ginn's value would be best enhanced if and when he develops a set of "NFL-caliber WR hands". He's had about 6 drops in the past 2 games, including some very big ones.

This is why you need a franchise QB in this league....you can get lucky and win one year when the stars line up, but without a franchise QB, you cannot do it consistently.

Miami was already seeing 8 in the box.. with another safety creeping up to support the run as well. Not sure how this really effects their run game, unless Henne is just incompetent.

I know that everything is set up for the Wildcat...but if they ran it more often as most suggest they will, why did they abandon it as soon as Pennington left the game?
