Not sure why I'm on the photo kick today but this is another set that's cool. I'd seen some of these before. But lots of new ones for me.

And as a parent now...any pic with children in the midst of war. Just couldn't fathom the horror of kids would feel hearing the sounds and seeing the sights they would see. We really take for granted the peaceful country we live in.

And the one with the transplant doctors. I've never known a doctor or someone who has had a transplant, so it doesn't strike me personally. I think it's just the sheer exhaustion and knowing that they spent all that time and energy to save one person's life. I don't know. It's just powerful to me.

Agreed. There is something super cool about that selfless angle. I know surgeons are paid well. But you get the feeling that some of them do it for reasons more like helping than the money. I don't know anything about anything. But that's what this pic looked like to me.

- The Afghan girl with the American soldier - shows that kids know no fear/hate

- South Korean and North Korean brothers - for no reason they have to leave each other

- The mother astronaut - hope, adventure, no fear

- Rwandan boy left scarred - shouldn't be happening today

- Skater girls in Tehran - all Iranians are not the same. Something many don't see

- What's up with the young girl and the cigarette? - more explanation needed

- baby through the barbed wire - parents will do anything for a small chance

The 8th picture down, Thania Sayne, I knew her husband that was killed - Tim. Left behind a young child and I believe she was pregnant with their second. I went to college with Tim's sister... it's heartbreaking; sad that Americans lose their lives serving, leave children behind, and since it never hits home for a vast majority of people it doesn't get the recognition it should.

When i was in Haiti a few weeks ago, one of the schools had magazines and catalogs donated to them for the kids to read.

One catalog was an LL Bean winter clothing edition. Full of snow and Norwegian sweaters and all that. I wonder what the kids thought of that.
