With Peprah gone, what does this mean for the Green Bay safety situation; more Woodson at safety or a big opportunity for M.D. Jennings or Jerron McMillian?

Peprah was a top 10-15 saftety in most of my leagues, so was that based on the player (Peprah), opportunity at the position or a combination of both?

From what I see coming out of the Packers homers I follow sounds like Woodson to S on base downs and dropping down to slot CB in subpackages is the general line of thinking. Value through the roof assuming he retains CB eligibility.

Winner of Jennings/McMillian to see nickel package snaps.

Very possible they will add a veteran cut sometime in camp as well.

Thank God! Peprah has been a thorn in our side if you ask me! As far as playing time I'll second treat. Class guy, but NOT starter worthy. Personally I was hoping they'd convert Heyward to FS and kick Burnett back to his natural SS position. I just don't see that happening.

When they open training camp we should know the team is thinking. Homers like me can't say much before they start practicing. Some attribute 2 of the big plays in the Giants game loss to his lack of speed and athleticism. I would have kept him as a backup but they must know more.

confirmed for nowCharles Woodson opened Packers training camp Thursday lined up at strong safety in the base defense.

When the Packers played nickel defense, M.D. Jennings entered the lineup at safety and Woodson dropped down to cover the slot receiver. Woodson has been amenable to the position switch, and Charlie Peprah's Wednesday release opened up strong safety for the 35-year-old to take over. Woodson will continue to play all over the formation, but he'll see lots more safety snaps in 2012. Jul 26 - 10:13 AM

An interesting note from ESPN Wisconsin:

Realistically, Woodson won’t be playing much safety if the Packers employ their sub packages as frequently as they did last year. According to ProFootballFocus.com, the Packers played 1,182 snaps on defense in 2011. They spent 732 snaps in nickel and 80 in dime, meaning they spent 68.7% of the time with five or more defensive backs on the field. Capers suggested earlier this week that they may play even more dime than they played last year, too.

Yeah Tyler Dunne said last year they were in base only 25% of the time.

Often they played 2 D linemen and that could change too. Capers should adjust his defense based on the players he has.

Edit

They are practicing indoors today(rain) but the press is there.
