There's never really a good time for this to happen but during the holidays is all the worse. Not sure how you celebrate future Christmases. Heck, just for fantasy purposes, how can we expect this guy do anything for the rest of the year? If I had a kid I'd be devastated for a long time after news like this. :( :( :(

Condolences and prayers all around.I hope Mr. Dungy can salvage something from this holiday season, and I hope he takes as much time as he needs in order to deal with this situation before even considering coaching again.

You know, sports and fans are funny things. Remember when Tim Duncan's dad died during the playoffs? There was debate on whether or not Tim should play a certain game. I can't remember what he did. Bill Parcells coached a game the same day of his brothers funeral. Of course, the loss of a child is said to be the worst. You know there will be debate about what Dungy does this weekend. Just about any other job and there is no debate. Heck, I'd probably be out from work for like a month. If this weekend was the playoffs or an important game, there would be fans that are adamant Dungy should be on the sideline. I hope he doesn't feel any pressure, at all, to coach this weekend. I hope he does what he really wants to do. And, I really hope there is no big debate on what he should do because 99.9% of us have no clue what he's going through.

was this a troubled kid? what was an 18 year old doing in Tampa? college there, or what?

I remember when Favre's dad passed away before that Oakland game a few years ago and he said he wanted to play because when you are in the heat of the a game, you are kind of escaping the pain for a little while.

Just a heads up...try to keep this thread focused on the initial story. If you want to discuss the fantasy implication, start a new thread. Seen these before and know where they go...don't want to see any one innocent getting suspended without warning. Can't imagine losing my kid.

A sad, sad day for football. Dungy has handled all situations with class and honor. I cannot imagine how difficult this situation is. I hope he will take time to be with his family. His team will be fine. My prayers and thoughts are with him. Circumstances like these put life into perspective.

This is really horrific. Its bad enough when someone loses a parent or even a spouse, but to lose their child at any age... that just beyond awful. Thought and prayers to the Dungys.

[QUOTE=']Drug related? Suicide?

There is one that keepeth silence, and is found wise: and another by much babbling becometh hateful.

Wasnt someone atudent athlete staying with the Dungy family whom became good friends with his son?

Unbelievable...... To the Dungy Family and Friends........... Sorry for your loss...... You are in our thoughts and prayers........

Just damn...Way too young. And I agree that no parent should ever have to bury their kid.Football comes secondary for Tony. He was with the team a lot too, and I'm sure a lot of the players liked him too, so I'm sure it'll affect them on a personal and emotional level, too. :(

If this is true, that is horrible! Drugs involved? Most 18 year old kids don't just die of "natural causes". Just goes to show you that no matter how much money you have, you can't buy happiness....

Speculate much?

Don't quote me on this, but I know a guy that his mom tought the kid at Berkley prep. Not sure what grade, could have been a while back. Anyways, I remember she said he was always getting in trouble. Not saying he was bad, but if he possibly rubbed someone the wrong way he could have been murdered out of jealousy. :(if he was murdered

Peace be with you, Dungy family.
Yeah, I guess he died of "old age"! Come on, it's pretty clear that foul play or drugs are involved here. NOBODY is immune from that stuff any more! That said, I have heart felt sadness for any man that has to bury his son and wish Dungy the best.

I think it's ALL speculation at this point. Hence his question mark. He's right, most 18 year olds do NOT die of natural causes. If this was just some 18 year old who was found dead in his apartment, what would your first thought be?

My prayers are with the Dungy family. For those of you concerned with how this will affect Tony, I'm sure he's devastated. But I've heard him speak of his faith in God and he is a man of strong faith. He will be fine.

confirmed? if so, i cannot imagine beeing a parent and having this happensad, real sad
I just turned on the radio, they are speculateing now. Sorry i posted suicide, I didn't hear the whole thing. I changed it.They are also speculateing money could have been involved, like MJ's dad

Scratch all that I just heard on 620 that the sherrifs office is speculateing suicide. He is survived by 4 siblings.

Apparently, a reported asked if this looked like suicide and someone at the sheriff's office said, "yes". That's not official in my book, more somebody trying to break a story.Sad sad day here in Indy.

Your right, nothing official. I heard his girlfriend found his body after returning to his campus lodge appartments.

Horrible news, my thoughts and prayers are with the Dungy family, even moreso at this time of year. You can see one of Dungy's son's on the sidelines of pretty much every Colts games, does anyone know if James was that child or one of his others?

I'm stunned. If you know Tony Dungy, this is a "Promise Keeper", a guy who in my opinion would be very involved with his family...I know he has several children, not sure if this is the son who was on the sideline with him in the Bucs games or not...I lost my mom, dad, I've been thru death and I usually do not wince for other people's loss...however I was pulling for Dungy more than anything else for the NFL playoffs...I'm absolutely stunnded.Dungy is one of the most stand up guys I have ever met in my life...seriously.

So if Tony was not religious, he wouldn't be fine? I don't understand the implication.

Can we save the ACLU debate for later?Seriously, that's not necessary in a thread like this.

Please do not take this a place we do not want. Crosseyed made a kind comment. Save the debate for the FFA.
