OT Svitek Named All-Pro In NFLEL

KCChiefs.com - [Full Article]

2005 6th round pick Will Svitek earned All-NFLEL honors at left tackle after serving as a key component of a Frankfurt squad that led the league in both total offense and rushing offense. Svitek was also part of a Galaxy blocking unit that paved the way for Frankfurt RB Roger Robinson, who set a league single-season record with 1,087 rushing yards.

This could be another Brian Waters, who was signed as a TE I believe, was sent to NFLEL, did well @ G, and is now a top-3 G in the League. Svitek actually played D-Line in college and was converted last season.

This goes to show that the whole "KC line is aging and all about to die simultaneously" is overrated. KC is a power rushing team, will be for years, and will find new talent for that line.

in NFLE thread already

hollaatyaboy many of the Supe teams over the last 8 years or so have started NFLE linemen. IIRC Rams, broncos, bucs, and pats all did. So saying this guy is the best is a pretty high compliment

That's over-stating it. It indicates the guy might have a future in the NFL, but with the emphasis only on might.
He wasn't just good or better than most. Reportedly he dominated. Remember, Svitek is doing this as a convert from defensive lineman. He only had one year in college at Tackle. He definitely has a future in the NFL.

EDIT for correction - He never played tackle in college. He converted in the pros!

no it's not at all.I wrote "compliment" if you believe every compliment you ever received as fact then ......

I've been following NFL-Europe for so long I remember the original World League of American Football (WLAF) and indeed went to the inaugural World Bowl at Wembley Stadium in 1991 (I think it was). Anyhow, all I'm saying is, only a relatively small percentage of the players who dominate at this level actually go on to be worth a row of beans in the real NFL.

I wish I could come up with a list of former NFLE all-pros to make my point that this is no more news then a guy doing well in rookie camp...

this is probably a fair comparison but maybe NFLE is a bit higher level

Well, it's obviously good news for the Chiefs that he played well.

How good the news is, is another question.

Opening day 2007:

Weigmann will be 34

Roaf will be 37

Shields will be 36

Waters and Welbourn will be over 30, but their age isn't an issue.

Let's say Svitek is able to contribute. Where? At tackle, right? Left tackle? Because Welbourn is at right tackle, and is probably not a candidate to move to LT. It seems to me that even if he develops, they still need to replace their left tackle, a G, and a C. Sooner rather than later.

From the article listed in the original post:

The NFLEL has served as a springboard to NFL success for a number of other Chiefs players over the years, including Pro Bowlers WR Dante Hall (Scotland, 2001), LB Gary Stills (Frankfurt, 2001) and G Brian Waters (Berlin, 2000), as well as other starters such as LB Mike Maslowski (Barcelona, 1999).

Just from a small snipet in one article there are three pro bowlers and a LB who has stuck in the NFL. This is only from one team. What makes it so hard to believe that he could be a good, if not great, NFL lineman?
