I've seen a lot of terrible ABs from the guy over the years but he can field the position and hit with power. He had no business hitting in the middle of the Giants order. I suppose Feliz is an upgrade over Helms, Abraham Nunez, Greg Dobbs and whomever else the Phils were planning to put out there. It's really saying something that the Giants don't have anybody better to fill the position in 2008PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies have upgraded at third base after all, reportedly signing free-agent third baseman Pedro Feliz to a two-year deal. An agreement was first reported by ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, and it is believed to be pending a physical. For their part, the Phillies said the deal isn't quite complete. "We haven't finalized anything, but have been talking to his representatives," Phillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said late Monday afternoon. Feliz, who hit .253 with 20 homers and 72 RBIs with the Giants in 2007, has a reputation for being a fine defensive player. He would likely step in as the starter, and prompt a trade of Wes Helms, a move that might address the team's pitching needs. Helms had been speculated to be heading to Florida to replace departed Miguel Cabrera, though the Marlins have added former Rays second baseman Jorge Cantu since then.
