I highly recommend picking up Peter Gabriel's Secret World live DVD. I finally bought this recently, and, holy smokes, it is unbelievably good.

If you are not a fan of Gabriel, then buy this DVD. It will almost certainly convert you. :)

Damn, I thought there would be more Peter Gabriel fans here. :(

Oh well, I figured it was worth one bump to see if there is any more interest. :)

Might get more response with a better title...
Yeah, I changed it, though I originally figured that any music fan would check out a thread called 'music fans,' but I was obviously wrong. :wall:

Looks like he's not getting as much "Steam" as in years gone by. :bag:
:lmao: :lmao:

99% of people on this board are fans of some sort of music. Then there's Smoo.

A high end electronics store nearby used this DVD to showcase their top of the line surround sound system. I immediately put it on my X-mas wishlist (the DVD, not the high end system).

This is a great concert video, and the chick singing with him is seriously hawt.
Paula Cole. She has some great pipes, too.
For those just into his solo work, check out Foxtrot from his Genesis days.
Don't even get me started on how great Genesis was when PG was in the band. Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway are three of the best records of the 70's.

Very nice.

Been a big PG fan for many years and agree the best Genesis years are those with him and Steve Hackett. I've never heard "Secret World" but I have "Growing Up Live", which is also a great DVD. Always love Levin & David Rhodes as well.
Yeah, Growing Up is great, too. When he and his daughter do that skywalk in Downside Up, I am still in         . In fact, the first time I saw that, I had to rewind it back to make sure I had really just seen that.
He should have agreed to do the Genesis reunion tour coming up, oh well.
Perhaps, but reports are that Gabriel is already working on his next solo project, so I am glad to see he is continuing it, rather than abandoning it, simply to take a stroll down memory lane with a band he hasn't been a part of in over 30 years. Don't get me wrong, I would enjoying seeing a Genesis show with the classic lineup of the early 70's, but if him not doing it means he is going to do another solo album and tour, then I will be happy. I thought Up was his best solo record to date, and if he can come close to doing that again, I will be one happy fan. :)

I saw Phil Collins interviewed and he said that basically with his hand problems he can't drum anymore. That would leave him to do thelead vocals which would make Gabriel useless. That's one of the reasons they are not getting back together.

1st concert I ever saw - think it was 1995..Sledgehammer tour....went for the pop hit and fell in love with "Red Rain".

In college it was Lloyd Dobler and "In your eyes"

Now my fave is Book of Love - saw it on the Scrubs finale and really like it!

I wouldnt say Im a huge Gabriel fan but its funny to see how his music has been part of my life for such a long time!

'93/'94? Secret World Tour. Phenomenal album and tour. Probably my favorite of each.

So was May of 1986, I remember because I went to my first concert on his tour that summer. We had 6th or 7th row seats at Great Woods, near Boston. It was possibly the best show I have ever been to. (Kinda sux to have it first!)Us was released in September 1992, so that is the album that the Secret World Tour (1993-1994) was based upon. "Secret World" was the last song on "Us." There was a "Secret World Live" album released in 1994.

Thats it - I meant 1980s not 90s - forgot how old I was - I was 15 and it was my first show....my buddys mom dropped us off. next year I saw Grateful Dead and Pink floyd....Good times!

Up is a great record. Definitely wish he'd release some new material, but I'm not assuming that he hasn't done any writing. My hunch is that he just doesn't feel that strongly about enough material for a record. I will say I never took him for an anniversary tour type. This is pretty surprising.

PG would have a very difficult time singing that early Genesis stuff nowadays. He doesn't have close to the range he used to, especially live, and it would be painful seeing him struggle to sing Supper's Ready and The Cinema Show.

Agreed. Considering PG is one of those crazy creative, arty guys, I never figured he'd resort to touring on old records like this. Not holding it against him per se, but like you said, it is surprising.

All I can say is that PG's band is one of the best in the world, and you all should see them at least once.

Great show...saw him at Jones Beach last summer.

Those crane lights were creepy and awesome at the same time.

He's had lights like that for a long time. I don't remember the song but I remember seeing him singing and having them hovering over him while he curled on the stage. It fit with the song, I just don't remember which song it was.

Hopefully some of you will be able to see this, I will be stuck on a train from Chicago to DC that night. :kicksrock:

On Wednesday, April 23, Peter Gabriel is coming back to US cinemas for a special concert event. Exclusively captured for cinemas in October 2013 at London’s famed arena, the O2, this epic one-night event reunites Peter with his original touring band from 1986 as they revisit the classic album So and many other of his best-known hits. Throughout the event, cinema audiences will also get a deeper insight into Peter as an artist through the seamless use of subtle commentary and exclusive interviews with those closest to him.
Tix go on sale to general public on March 26. I got an email with a link to other tix. Don't know if others can buy them.

PG's newer live material doesn't interest me as much simply because he has lost quite a bit of power in his voice (damn Father Time!), and hearing him struggle his way through some of the songs kind of sucks. The music and production is always top notch with him, though.

My first introduction to PG was the Sledgehammer video, and I couldn't stand it,

I've just never been able to get over it. First impressions ya know....

I despise both that and Big Time. Get the Us album as an antidote for that. It is lush, melodic, beautifully layered, exquisitely performed and produced, and ultimately a masterpiece. Also a pretty heavy look at the spectrum of love.
