Peter King - Indy will get the 2012 Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

From Peter King's MMQB on SI.com

"4. I think the worst-kept secret in the NFL is that Indianapolis will get the 2012 Super Bowl when owners meet in Atlanta this week. Indy deserves it. The city lost the 2011 game to Dallas, 17 votes to 15, and there's always been a strong feeling toward new stadiums in cities that have enough hotel rooms and are weatherproof. All domed stadiums in northern cities eventually get one Super Bowl. It happened at the Metrodome, the Silverdome and Ford Field, and the Colts are in line to get the first one ever played in Indiana."

Does seem like a bit of a no-brainer. The only reason, and its a big one of course, is Indiana in February. The fans of the Colts and Indiana community certainly deserve it. Stadium looks like its gonna rock and would be a great SB stadium.

Yes, this should happen. Heard something that I think will come up at the 2011 SB (the Dalls one?). Apparently part of the reason JJ got so many seats into that stadium is the "size" of the seats. I think they are going from a standard 19" seat down to 18". Where as the Indy stadium I believe is more like 21" wide seats. Let's hear it for all us obese bastiges in the MidWest!! GB being a "fat" city so that we can all be comfy in the new stadium!!

Anyway, I'm not that worried about the weather. Yes, with some bad luck it could be brutal. But almost all of downtown can be done with a very minimum of walking outside (many many buildings are connected on their interiors). Also, with the size of the new and old conference centers (read MASSIVE) I'd assume that almost every single "event" will have both an indoor and outdoor venue planned. We've had some seriously warm days in the last few Febs, so we'll have to wait and see.

This is decided Tuesday, right?

The vote is supposed to be done by about 2:30 tomorrow.

Lame. Put the SB in a real football town....let's try Green Bay for starters. It would be fun to see the pansy corporate types freezing in the cold.

Arizona was making a big "last minute" push for it.

Is that there only real competition? It seems ya gotta schmooze the owners/NFL if you want the game.

Dallas and NY are probably locks X many years from now with their new stadiums

Dallas will host the 2011 Super Bowl.

that was in the OP, thanks. Sorry not enough coffee yet

I stayed in downtown Indy for 3 days around Christmas time and it's a real fun city to visit. Very underrated IMO. Lots of places to stay where everything is connected and you wouldn't even have to go outside - we went outside maybe once the whole time we were there....

All warm weather cities should have the SB, and all cold weather cities with a dome should get the SB every once in a while.

With that being said - all cold weather cities that do not have a dome (thus not practicle to host a SB) should get to host the NFL draft on a rotating basis.

I think this is very fair.

I wonder if Mr.Ford will try to get Detroit another superbowl before he dies and before ford field is too old. I herd the NFL liked how things went in Detroit. But Hizz Honor Kwame has to be shown the door before then I imagine

Not a chance. Super Bowl will be back in Detroit when they open another new dome. These days, it's like a one time thank you gift for northern cities to coerce city leaders into facilitating the construction of new stadiums.

I dunno, Mr.Ford is an old guard owner and has alot of pull. One might have been enough to satisfy the old man though

Enjoy your one Super Bowl, Indy! You earned it.

After NYC builds their new dome, who's left to give a charity Super Bowl to up north? Are the Vikings ever going to move into a new crib?
