I'm no Colt fan but my guess is Manning is taking a page out of the Larry Bird handbook and by doing this he's basically laying out a public challenge for his team to step up. Bird did this all the time (to fans as well) and usually the team came out in a big way. There's only a few players who can do this (i.e. stars who have the total respect of their teammates) and the other key is that no individual is ever called out because that takes things to a totally different (and unhealthy) level.Old school didn't point fingers, they grabbed them by the facemask and told them to shape up or get off the field.Well then I suppose I can understand why you feel the way you do, Johnny.Unitas would have done a lot worst to his teammates. So would Norm Van Brocklin.Sorry but I disagree. He's the leader of that team, so yes, he does have that right and should do exactly what he's doing. He's great and all, but that doesn't give him the right to criticize his teammates to the extent that he seems to. The fact that he does it in a subtle manner doesn't make it any better, in fact I'd say it makes it worse. I'd like to see Wayne or Harrison say something like, "It doesn't really matter if the other team's coverage sucks, even if I'm open the ball still sails just wide of my grasp."To each his own - I just feel there are more constructive ways to lead than pointing fingers.
