Peyton Manning smear campaign (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
I just do not understand why they are doing this to him. He has been in the NFL almost 20 years, why come out with this silliness of what he did at Tennessee? Is Manning a serial junk flasher and pusher? Doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern here. Does anyone even care? Does anyone really remember that Favre texted his junk to some NY floozy?

It's a total smear campaign at the end of the line to try and tarnish his record in the NFL. Some groups calling for companies to end relationships with Manning. Are you kidding? That guy endorses your product you are bound to sell more. You think that insurance company that he whistles and hums through is going to stop that campaign now that he finished the NFL? I would be surprised if we didn't see that commercial run for at least another few years, they will milk it. Papa John's? He actually owns a bunch of them.

Manning will continue to reap the benefits of his NFL labor for a long time. The part of the story that is painful and merits a little discussion is the athletic trainer as it seems like after the incident her career went down hill. Why did she not raise a stink much earlier? Maybe she did and the University didn't do the right thing. Should UT start paying out more money to this ex-trainer?

Whether you like Manning as an NFL QB is not the debate here, more about the actions right now of those trying to mark him up on his way out of the NFL on matter that happened in college.

I have an opinion on Archie and the Mannings as a family. They had Eli refuse to sign with S.D. and demand a trade before he even threw an NFL pass. The similarities between Archie and how he handled his 2 NFL prospects, and Richard Williams, who is the father of Venus and Serena, I see similarities there.

I agree with MoP that sexual assault and/or harassment isn't really a big deal and I don't understand why folks are making a fuss about this.

Let's make the light speed jump to sexual assault. Is rape even a term anymore?

AB, we all have done things whether they are in the front of our brain or not, if there was film footage of all the little #### things we have all done in our lives, I'm sure many in here would slide into the ocean.

Are we really going to become a society that needs to strike back 20 years later to attack an sports legend? I fit happened while he was in the NFL or in the last 5 years or there was a pattern to this...we weren't there 20 something years ago and there are very different versions of the story. I doubt we will ever know the truth.

Yes folks remember what Favre did.  Yes many are disgusted, not that he was crudely hitting on some Bimbo whose job it was to be a Bimbo, but because he did so while his wife was battling  cancer.

No Manning will not maintain endorsement deals beyond his career.  Those deals will dry up fast.  Society would likely have forgiven him if he had, in a timely fashion, come out and said he did a crude and juvenile thing spontaneously showing off for the guys, and that he regrets it immensely. he should have stated he had some growing to do and that he was going to work on it. had he eaten a little humble pie and showed contrition this would have long since faded, and faded fast.  Instead he attacked the victim systematically over the years, years where he was no longer a dumb kid but a fully grown and mature family man.

Texting your junk to a floozy is slightly different from rubbing your junk on someone's face. And yes people care, because Manning has tried to portray himself as a beacon of all that is right and good. And if he was involved in a decade-long smear campaign (hey there's that word again!) against this athletic trainer, then he's basically a piece of ####.

Far as the endorsements go, I don't really understand the logic here. You're saying that if he endorses the product, they're bound to sell more. Well yeah, the same goes for Jared from Subway. Until circumstances change, and the negativity surrounding the endorser becomes significant enough that people turn away from the product because of who is doing the endorsement. That's just a simple numbers game. If Manning helps sales, they'll keep him in there no matter what message board posters say. If he starts costing them dollars, they'll cut him. Pretty cut and dried really.

To add: Not comparing what Manning did to what Jared did. Just saying, any paid celebrity/character endorsement is worthwhile...until it's not.

Did Manning show up on this woman's door flashing?

Those who want to flame and throw Manning into a dumpster fire, you better be honest about what happened. He didn't seek this woman out IMO. Poor choice of judgement or jokes. Maybe that's why he didn't clown around in the NFL, he's no stand up comedian.

My read on this is that this story is that it's another symptom of the "Everybody on the internet is a farmer with a pitchfork" era that we live in. This story is ~20 years old, and the guy just notched SB ring #2 and has the opportunity to ride off into the sunset after a SB win and a HoF career. He also took the brass ring away from the millennial generation's face of the franchise Cam Newton with pretty negligible stats, e.g. on the back of the defense. That target audience, internet millennials glued to their phones, didn't like that the old guard embodied by the Sheriff got one over on them. I feel like this is another example of the "everyone get's a trophy/why does "the Sheriff" get to take the Lombardi away from everyone's favorite dabber on Vine?" So what does this "afflicted" demographic of internet all stars do next? Go dig up a 20 year old article and start the same cookie-cutter smear campaign people on the internet do to any person that has pissed off a large enough group of people with Twitter handles.

Ok, this seems likely.

Does it matter that this woman has sued several prominent people and had cases thrown out of court. She seems a bit on the batty side, so why are some people buying everything she says as gospel?

Here is a pic of one of Peyton's main side pieces from a few years back

His self promotion as a good ol boy everyman makes him an attractive target.

As does his blatant shilling for any and every product.

As does his staging fake spontaneous celebrations

And past campaigns to besmirch accusers become more relevant now given his current campaign to fight PED allegations by strong-arming witnesses

In his defense, he was never, to our knowledge, "generally aware" of a scheme to deflate footballs

Yes/no. The Shaun King guy that stirred all this back up was motived by this (and race). The rest of the media, they're just jumping on a story for ratings.

Classy that you would defend someone who sexually assaulted a woman, then ran a smear campaign to discredit her and ruin her career.

Yeah, I mean she was totally asking for it too.

Manning settled with her out of court in '04 (I think) and UT paid her something like $300K to go away.

The moral of the story kids is don't ever do anything at all juvenile or distasteful in your life if you plan on being a celebrity, especially if you're one that's considered a good guy. If you plan on being an #######, it's fine. We forgive you then, like Kobe or Ben. But if you try to act like a beacon of goodness so help us God (that we may or may not believe in) we will tear down everything you ever held dear and make sure your name is spoken in the same vein as rapists and pedophiles.

Wait, I thought your argument above about Kobe and Ben was exactly the opposite.

Peyton's carefully cultivated image is quickly unraveling, that is the larger story at work here.  First there was the HGH stories, then this Tennessee story is back in the spotlight and all of a sudden there is a lot more chatter about his serial infidelities that many in the media have talked about among themselves for years.  Juxtapose all of this with the storybook ending of his career if he retires and it is quite compelling.  Tiger-like.

Clearly you haven't forgiven either Kobe or Ben. You may need to change your moral.

ETA: guess i'm slow on posting.

As for the infidelity stories I think that is all a misunderstanding between Manning and various women.  I think women were hitting on him.  They asked him what he wanted and he would say "A little head".  They would then go down on him, to his shock and dismay, not understanding he was simply expressing his longstanding wish for his skull to return to normal proportions, or a tab bit smaller if that were possible.

Nobody cares about Ben or Kobe after what they supposedly did, much more recent than 20+ years ago.  They won more titles for their teams and people are either happy or meh about it anymore because Ben and Kobe are not "Beacons of light."

So he tea bagged her or something?  Not cool Peyton.
She mentions no contact in her signed affidavit for the 96 settlement.

He pulled his pants down and exposed himself to me, as I was bent over examining his foot after asking me personal questions. I reported this to my supervisor, who referred to it as ‘merely a prank,’ and no action was taken in regard to this until after I formally complained.

Manning is a sexual predator now? Is that the Liberal wing of the FFA pulling out their skirts again?
You need to stop blaming everything (or everyone that has an opinion you don't agree with) on the "liberals", "left", etc.

Edit to add that I don't know enough to give my opinion yet.

I think most people and media will give Peyton a pass on these stories on nutgate, and hgh.

Nutrageous stories about his ballsack on someone's face years ago will not get the penetration some want.

The slandering of this lady is the part of the story that seems the most shameful.  If it is true that Archie tried to have this girl ruined is awful.

Was/is Peyton a little spoiled and felt a sense of privilege? Shocked the son of a NFL QB and star of a SEC program would have that.

"On Feb. 29 of that year, Naughright, at that point the university's director of health and wellness, was in a training room, examining what she thought might be a possible stress fracture in Manning's foot. At 6 feet, 5 inches, his feet dangled off the edge of the table. Manning allegedly then proceeded to scoot down the training table while Naughright examined his foot. At that point, she said, he forcefully maneuvered his naked #### and rectum directly on her face with his penis on top of her head."

I'm sure none of you would mind if this was done to your wife or daughter, right?

"When Rollo learned of the complaint, he allegedly concocted a story that Manning actually pulled down his pants to moon another student-athlete, Malcolm Saxon, who was nearby. According to Rollo, after mooning the student, Naughright just happened to move her head right into Manning's pelvic region. Rollo acknowledged under oath that he was the first person to use the word “mooning.” One person, though, could settle all of this: Malcolm Saxon. And, in fact, he did settle it. In an affidavit, Saxon refuted Manning's story and made it clear that Manning never mooned him. In a letter to Manning, Saxon, who stated that he lost his eligibility as a student-athlete over it"

Oh how nice, he ruined another person's life, for daring to tell the truth. I'm sure Malcom Saxon lied about what happened to try and take down the star QB, thereby sabotaging his chance at playing sports for his college.

"Before she left, though, two staff members of the school, according to the documents, asked Naughright if she would consider blaming the entire incident not on Manning, but on another athlete — a black one."

Nice, let's blame it on some black guy. Way to go Peyton!

" On another occasion he allegedly called her a "#####" in front of other athletes after snatching a marker used to label drug-test specimens from her hand and throwing it across the room."

Keeping it classy, Peyton. Let's terrorize and intimidate a woman because she dared call out your bull####.

" When she arrived at her office, she found a large manilla envelope in a receptacle on her door with the words "Dr. Vulgar Mouth Whited" printed on it (see page 1)... Her supervisor at Florida Southern had already opened the envelope and read what was in it. What Manning said about her ruined her career at Florida Southern and in college athletics once and for all...Polk County Circuit Judge Harvey A. Kornstein...put Peyton Manning, his father, and the others on blast. In his statement, he said:

"Even if the plaintiff is a public figure, the evidence of record contains sufficient evidence to satisfy the court that a genuine issue of material fact exists that would allow a jury to find, by clear and convincing evidence, the existence of actual malice of the part of the defendants. Specifically, there is evidence of record, substantial enough to suggest that the defendants knew that the passages in question were false, or acted in reckless disregard of their falsity. There is evidence of record to suggest that there were obvious reasons to doubt the veracity of Peyton Manning's account of the incident in question. The court further finds that there is sufficient evidence to permit the conclusion that the defendants entertained serious doubts as to the truth of the passages in this case.""

Nice. A Judge read the facts and called Peyton and family a liar.

" [Peyton] told his father, Archie, "she's kind of trashy," and "had the most vulgar mouth of any girl he'd ever seen" and "was unattractive but had big breasts" and had "been out with a bunch of black guys" and "had a toilet mouth." "

Black guys?!?! A woman with BLACK guys?!?! THE HORROR!\

" Under oath, the ghostwriter, John Underwood revealed that Archie Manning suggested to him that Naughright was going into the dorms and having sex with large numbers of black student athletes."

Ah, that explains a lot. Like father like son.

I think it's brave that MoP would openly defend rape and sexual assault.

Most people find that stuff abhorrent, but some don't. Most of those people like to live in the shadows, and keep their darkness hidden. It's refreshing to see someone so open about their scumbaggery.

My favorite part, is that the Mannings attempts at hurting her image heavily involved making up stories about her being involved with black people.

That's right, they think so little of black people that they seem to think it is offensive and damning to be associated, romantically, with one. Nice.

Peyton Manning: Liar, Sexual Assaulter, Defamer, HGH user, Racist
