"In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting.

guy makes me want to get every synth ever made into a straw hut and set fire to the effing thing. big fan of his drumming though.

As a drummer...top notch. As a vocalist...just OK.

Always been a big fan of Turn It On Again, Abacab and Mama.

I've always liked "Misunderstanding" a lot so I voted for that, but "Home by the Sea" is my favorite Phil sung song.

The lack of a drummer option makes me think the OP doesn't know much about him outside of his hits.

In his heyday, Collins was a terrific drummer.

So many good songs. I voted for "Throwing It All Away" just over "Paperlate" but utterly forgot "No Reply At All," duh. I am not a fan of "Mama," but the whole rest of Genesis Genesis is outstanding. His first three solo albums have some terrific deep cuts too.

Superlative drummer, too.

I think "Invisible Touch" was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility.

Although Genesis days, Man on the Corner, great song - I'd have that one over a lot on the lists here. Never received the acclaim it deserved IMO.

Need to see that review of Collins that's been posted around these parts (Mr Pickles?) before I make a final judgement.

I saw a documentary that included Collins.  Best I can remember, he started singing and writing songs because his marriage fell apart.  He had two children and a wife and it went sideways so he came out from behind the kit and became "Phil Collins."  He said in the documentary that he feels blessed to have had the success he has had, but most of the times he thinks he would trade being Phil Collins the singer for simply going back to being Phil Collins the drummer, happily married father of two.

If that means we never have to hear the songs Su Su Sudio or Another Day in Paradise, then I'm all for him going back now.

this poll entirely ignores his Disney catalog - Tarzan, Brother Bear - guy is literally a Disney Legend

If that was the Genesis documentary, I saw the same thing. Although the main reason why Phil became the frontman was the fact that Peter Gabriel had just left the band. They were trying out people to be the new lead singer, and Phil was always having to show them how to sing the song. The other guys finally decided that Phil was doing a good enough job, so why look elsewhere.

ETA: I'd have to check the dates, but the point where he became the frontman of Genesis was well before he did anything solo. The stuff about him and his wife may be more related to why he went off to do solo work rather than just starting to sing. When he was in Genesis in the post-PG era, he did most if not all of the drumming in the studio for albums, with others doing most of the drumming on tour.

Don't see it on the list but personal favorite is I Wish It Would Rain Down. Phil with Clapton, awesome track and combination.

Was going to say the same thing.

Personally, I celebrate the guy's entire catalog.

For whatever reason,  I feel like his music is really dated,  just doesn't age well.

Theres a lot of cheesy 80's I am totally down with.  Can't hear this guy's stuff.

Would never trash him totally though because Miami Vice.

Against all odds is an awesome song.

I wish it would rain down is close.

Land of confusion is great

something happened on the way to heaven is solid enough.
