I grew up a few miles south of Gobblers Knob. Still a bit surprised every year when this is somehow newsworthy. 

Having seen both, I can confidently say the film was way better than the real event. Oddly though, they didn’t film it in Punxsy.

I remember well that most of the locals said the same thing. Half the nations weathermen descended on the small town for one day. Lots of “get off my lawn” could be heard.

Having seen both, I can confidently say the film was way better than the real event.

I watched over an hour's worth of live coverage on PCN this morning!  It is so hilariously awful, I love it and try to watch it with my kids every year.   

ETA: Oh yeah, then we listened to "Pennsylvania Polka" on repeat during the drive to school to see how long it would take them to break... I think we made it though 3.5 times

Actually met Phil at a beerfest of all places.  My buddy's birthday is 2/2 and posed to have a picture with Phil.    They kept warning him to not touch Phil and he said WTF would I want to do THAT?   Apparently Phil can be grumpy at times.

By the way, I lived in Pittsburgh for most of my life and I never once experienced a spring that arrived sooner than 6 weeks from Feb 2.

I'm one of those hicks. We don't mind the term at all. However, use the term "redneck" in a derogatory way and you might get a puffed up chest response. The original rednecks were PA and WV (predominantly WV) coal miners that wore red handkerchiefs around their necks to show their solidarity.

He and Punxy Phyllis have their home at the town library. There are interior and exterior windows so you can view him 24 hours a day. 

They also have groundhog statues all over town dressed up in different costumes.
