I just read a Rotoworld headline "Rivera: TE Olsen ready to join league's elite". I'm used to taking these comments with a healthy dose of salt, but what are some indicators to look out for during the preseason? How do you separate the 'legit' analysis and 'coachspeak'?

Coaches have a lot of reasons for saying things. Helping our FF teams are not one of them.

It's very rare if ever youll hear a coach say something bad about a players potential in the upcoming season so when I hear stuff like this you listen, then give it the sniff test. What I mean is what does it take to be an elite the talent in this league, statistically speaking, and then ask if its possible for Olson to realistically achieve those numbers. In this case I don't think it is, so I put this in the pile of coach speak. But if you come to a different conclusion then next step is the eye test. Watch while he's in during preseason, is he getting open? Is he being targeted? A little more difficult but does it look like he's the primary or secondary option in passing plays or is he a check down guy? How are they using him, inline or splitting him out?
