Pick a Pair/Half Decade Album Draft - Bonus Rounds Thu & Fri - Pick three if you want (1 Viewer)

6th round, right?

This is what I was calling my 'shame on you' for letting it slide, but that's not why I'm taking it now; I'm taking it because we had to put our family dog down today and a couple of the songs from these albums fit my mood right now.

6.14: Elton John Tumbleweed Connection (1970) and Too Low for Zero (1983)

Elton John isn't one of my all-time favorites, but Where to Now, St. Peter? really gripped me when it was reintroduced to me in the funeral songs draft. It's such a beautiful, haunting song that I can't seem to get away from it.

Too Low for Zero came out during my senior year of HS, and I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues played in the background during many of the make-out sessions I had with my gf at the time, so there is something pleasant in there as well.

As for the dog, he was a miniature Dachshund that looked and thought he was a Doberman. A friend of my wife told her about him, saying that she didn't like how her college-aged son was taking car of him.  We had the typical back-and-forth about bringing in a pet; my wife and kids on one side with the kids doing the "we'll help take care of him!" pleas, and me on the other, seeing this very day as my #1 objection.  He came home to us that night.  13 years later, the cumulative effect of his various health issues finally caught up to him over the course of last 2 weeks.  It finally became clear this week that he couldn't go any further.  My middle son came home from 2 hours away to visit him one last time, and that was the most excited the dog had been in weeks. I knew it had to be done and he's no longer in pain, but this still hurts.

Songs for the playlist:

Where to Now, St. Peter?

Burn Down the Mission

I'm Still Standing

I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues

I think that makes @landrys hatOTC.

There’s an album pair that I am totally stunned by being on the board. I feel both get taken a lot (songs or album drafts) both are like 5 star AllMusic kind of albums and perfectly fit the decade requirement. It wasn’t in my gameplan but I may have to stop the slide eventually. Just not sure it would gel with my playlist.

I have a feeling there a bunch of these still out there. I've been sitting on a pair since R2... not sure if I'll take or not.

I think Eephus scared everyone off from taking Rush albums

I am curious now what you have been sitting on. I feel like unless I decide to take one of these pairs that I am surprised by their fall, none of my planned picks from here out are really on people's radars. Though I am sure I will be proved wrong.

I think most of us know what one of them is. C'mon... it's kinda crazy to me, but I'm not taking it. I have my plan and I am sticking to it, even though it has some issues.

Let us know when these appear because now I'm curious.

I couldn't believe the Santana and Floyd pairs I took on the last turn were still on the board.

Elton, and Tumbleweed in particular, would have been long gone if @simeyhad been in the draft.

And I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I've been there, and it sucks.

I think it's a band I saw live in 93.  I never pick them, but they usually go early.

Two major acts (at least) I love, are still available.  My two favorite records from both are unpicked an eligible.  The one I'm taking next, won't make it back imo.

Seems like a bad draft to be skipped, but if I am not around tomorrow and up, skip me.

Then again, I don't know whether he's talking about Thursday or Friday because of the time, so maybe not. I'm really unsure, actually.

I'm sort of doing this by feel. The draft order is petering out a bit in terms of skips.

Confirmed still undrafted. Even if you for some odd reason didn't like one of their albums, they have another near classic right in that same little half decade. If they aren't yet taken, I will switch my plan and make them my last round pick.
