Pierre Thomas-RB- Saints Nov. 30 - 10:00 pm et

Coach Sean Payton suggested Tuesday that Pierre Thomas (ankle) has a realistic chance to return for this week's game at Cincinnati.

"I'm optimistic that (Thomas) can get back on the field for this game," said Payton. "We began to see some real progress last week, yet we knew he wouldn't be ready to play in that short turnaround on Thanksgiving ... our goal was to make the Cincinnati game." Thomas will have to get through practices this week without a setback, but Payton believes his lead back has finally "turned the corner." Thomas will likely be eased back, sharing snaps with Chris Ivory. Check back Wednesday afternoon for a practice update.

Nice! Someone in my league dropped PT so as a Gore owner I'm hoping to grab him off the WW if I don't get Westbrook.

When Pierre Thomas comes back from his injury, he should immediately begin to contribute to your fantasy roster as a RB2… unless you’re like the #1 guy in my league who has both Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster (it’s just that kinda year). Pick him up now before the future media blasts Thomas’ imminent return, sparking a violent bum rush over that week’s waivers (where of course, you don’t have the first position). Pick him up now if you wish to feast upon the endless riches promised to the top-3 finishers in your coworkers’ league. Pick him up now, before all is lost… okay, this is getting out of hand – just pick him up.

I actually traded for him while he was injured hping he would come back sooner, but now I am tempering my expectations. He would be my RB3b and will have a hard time playing him over Bradshaw as my flex. Not too sure I like his remaining schedule either: @CIN, STL, @BAL, @ATL.

I traded FOR Pierre in week 9 and thought I was a shark at that time. I have hung onto him since and am hoping that he can come alive in time for the fantasy playoffs .....AND COMPLETELY REDEEM HIMSELF (Dumb and Dumberer)

His week 15 matchup @Baltimore has my enthusiasm tempered, however.

Same here. I only gave up Michael Bush though, and he hasn't really produced since that point...so I didn't lose that much.I'm glad that he's hopefully coming back a week before the playoffs start, because it gives me one week to look at the situation and see if he is a worthy playoff starter.

Was able to grab Pierre Thomas and Dixon off the WW to replace Gore. I'm glad he will try to give it a go this week so that he will be read to roll in the FF playoffs.

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of cutting Felix Jones for him.
Dunno if I would cut Felix for him.
Oops, too late. I figured Jones role wasn't going to increase.
He's been getting 17 touches/game since Garrett took over as HC. He was getting 12 touches/game under Wade.Unless he comes out like gang busters I think PT will be closer to 12 than 17.

Pierre Thomas is so over rated it's kind of funny. What are you all excited about?? That juicy matchup vs baltimore?? Atlanta even has a pretty good run D. Oh yeah, and there's this Chris Ivory guy that's done well. You are mistaken if you think he still wont get 5-10 carries and at least half of the goal line. And Reggie Bush will be used a lot too. Pierre Thomas is a low end rb2, if that. I'm not knocking his talent, but people over hype him too much. His coach hates how brittle he is, and he has good talent surrounding him on the depth chart. I'll pass.

Exactly. Ivory has proved he has a nose for the goal line. So I don't think Pierre will get the short yardage work, unless it is a screen. And that may go to Bush.

I don't doubt any of what you stated above. Any running back seeing action after a long hiatus has some anticipation built up around the return. So, whether you hung onto him for 10 weeks or you acquired him via trade or waiver wire, if you own him, you have to be happy that he is back in action. I agree that Ivory has done well, which makes me think Pierre will do even better. The Saints offense can be dominant, and if Pierre can walk into a situation where the passing game is functioning at a high level, and he can get 12-15 opportunities per game - then he should be a productive fantasy back for just about anyone.

I'm not as much of a Debbie Downer but I have him and can't start him until I see something out of him. Did we not learn anything from seeing Vincent Jackson's return and even Reggie Bush's?I need to visually see him running hard and looking like a force before he goes into my lineup. If I miss a game where he gets 80 and a TD, then so be it.And like everyone has said, his remaining schedule isn't great. I will note that Goodson from Carollina went over 100 on Baltimore and Hillis went off on them too earlier in the year. So it's not like it can't be done, but I don't know if PT will get those kind of carries to do it over and over.

You should watch a Saints game. Pierre will be the starter and main back when he returns.

He’s Not on IR – This might seem like an obvious point, but I think it’s worth noting as DeAngelo Williams was placed on IR . Williams was placed on IR in order to open up more precious roster space for the Panthers, although Coach Fox said he could’ve probably returned in a few weeks. With the Saints also struggling with injuries and roster space, I’m sure they would’ve put Thomas on IR if they thought he wouldn’t contribute towards the end. Now, his injury has been quite mysterious and lengthy, but that’s more of a reason to like that he wasn’t put on IR. The coaches and training staff believe in Thomas’ recovery, so we should too. It’s all just a matter of when.

pierre has been fantastic on a per game basis as the starter or even in a timeshare with mike bell and bush. thats reason enough for optimism. id envision if pierre is fit the backfield will resemble last years work duty, with ivory in the role of bell/hamilton.

I would love to have him get back on the field this week and establish that he is either back or done. I'd love to have him available for week 14 and have his role clear.

This week is a wait and see what develops.

THE NEWS

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Pierre Thomas (ankle) said he feels "90 percent" healthy after Wednesday's practice.

OUR VIEW

Ah, athletes and percentages. Thomas did mention that he practiced without limitations, and he got some snaps with the first-team offense. Even though he said he felt well, he put his chances of playing at about 50-50, saying "either I'm gonna play or I might hold out." Stay tuned.

Jones is healthy and playing against a poor Indy run defense this week - I don't think either are going to end up being difference makers but imo keeping the healthy player would have been the wiser move.
