I have a league on CBS that has Alexi Ogando with SP & RP eligibility. Interested in him because of his hot start and the fact I can plug him in as RP and have an extra SP going. Concerned because I think I heard he hasn't pitched more than 75 innings in a season before and not sure how many innings TEX will let him go. I know Nolan Ryan seems pretty old school from a pitching approach but what do you think they'll do with him this year?

In my odd small league, we're restricted to only carry 5 SP's and 2 RP's. (Start 3 SP's and 2 RP's). Other than 2 free pickups per year, we can only add players if one of our players hits the DL. One of my SP's is Brett Anderson who's on the DL and scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews.

I'll have a free pickup available and these are the SP's at the top of the FA rankings:

Ogando, Alexi RP TEX

Lohse, Kyle SP STL

Pineda, Michael SP SEA

Shields, James SP TB

Kennedy, Ian SP ARI

Collmenter, Josh SP ARI

Wilson, C.J. SP TEX

Humber, Philip RP CHW

Hellickson, Jeremy SP,RP TB (also RP eligible)

Tomlin, Josh SP CLE

Chacin, Jhoulys SP COL

Think its worth a shot with Ogondo because of his RP eligibility? Or go with another safer option? And which one?

TIA!

Jesus Christ thats a small league. I have Ogando, Pineda, Collmenter, & Humber all on my team right now. In your case the RP eligibility is nice. Id still rather add Shields and/or Wilson.

Thinking about it I'm already in first in K's so can't get any more points there. I'm 5th out of 9 in W and S so would prob lose any ground in S I'd make up in W. Difference in ERA and WHIP may be negligible. May go for best SP available and leave a RP in the RP slot to hold ground in S.Yeah, its set up to be a dumbed down "set it and forget it" league where you don't have to pay too much attention after the draft which is basically an excuse to go to AC for the night. Only 9 teams, so only about 45 rostered SPs and 18 RPs. Only 8 hitters per team with 6 starting regardless of position. My roster:A Pujols 1B M Kemp OF J Bruce OFA Jones OF H Pence OFC Rasmus OF ------------C Kershaw SP F Hernandez SP S Marcum SP------------- C Marmol RP N Feliz RP -------------D Uggla 2B J Heyward OF DLB Anderson SP DLM Scherzer SP

The only reason to choose Ogando for the RP designation and as you said below you should just play your two closers every day. What you should do is get the BEST one available now based on the league scoring system but if I were ranking them it would be for ERA/WHIP and W1) Pineda (they may limit his innings but that shouldn't be a concern in June and July)2) Hellickson3) Ogando

I may not be able to make additional transactions to August / Sept may be as important in this decision as June / July.Pineda actually has thrown more innings in previous years than either Hellickson or Ogando. Would limited innings / early shutdown be a concern for all three? Would it be better to go with someone like James Shields? Where would you rank him in these three? If its a close call between the three you listed above, I may go Hellickson or Ogando just for the flexibility if I want to start 4 SP's at some point. Tough call, still not sure what to do here.

Pick one of those three - better to have the quality innings to improve your ERA/WHIP.....Shields is having a much better year than the last but no quarantee he continues (last month much worse than overall numbers)And WTH are you getting your information? Inning pitched last year (all you should be concerned with)Pineda 139Hellickson 153

Any reason to be concerned about Ogando having an IP limit. He's not young but he's never thrown this many innings in a season, unless he did it while in exile in the Dominican

Absent injury, I don't think so - remember who the club president is ;)

Ugh, looks like you guys favoring Pineda and Shields.

Grey from Razzball went with Chacin

Tristan Cockcroft has Chacin highest for rest of season at ESPN

Baseball by Paul has Shields highest for rest of season

Need to change by end of day. :headspinning:

Maybe I'm focusing too much on the recent past, but Shields has been going deep into games pretty well every time, going 7+ innings in 11 of 13 starts, including 3 CGs. Not to mention he's 2nd in the AL in K's behind only Felix who has started 2 more games than Shields.
