Plax' Ankle getting worse (1 Viewer)

Per CBS SPortsline...

Plaxico Burress, WR NYG

News: Giants WR Plaxico Burress' ankle injury, which has plagued him for most of the season, is apparently not getting any better, despite the fact that he gets held out of most practices every week. In fact, it may be getting worse. Burress, who was held to just 24 yards on four catches in Week 10's loss to the Cowboys, said Monday the ankle "don't feel good right now, that's for sure."

Analysis: Burress' numbers have been less-than-stellar in the last three games, and it looks like his ankle issue might finally be catching up with him. There's really no other explanation for his downturn in production at the moment. Consider him highly questionable for Week 11 against the Lions, a team with a very poor pass defense that Burress could definitely expose if healthy.

Does not sound too good...like his stat lines from the past 3 games.

This news combined with the annual second-half dropoff for Burress = BENCH. I'm not letting this guy take me down this year with three or four more 3-35 weeks.

This sounds more like a trade-now candidate.

I had Plax earlier in the year, and unloaded him for Torry Holt straight up. Maybe trading Plax for someone like Roy Williams wouldnt be a bad idea.

I don't think that his ankle has ever gotten better. However, I think that the notion that it is getting "worse" is nothing more than an excuse. I have had severe sprains in my ankles several times, and I can assure that they do NOT get worse over time. In reality, his ankle should be pretty healthy by now. The man doesn't even practice. Plus he just came off of a bye week where he didn't even have to play for a couple weeks. During the games that thing is so tapped up that he couldn't sprain it again if he tried. If you ask me... I honestly think that at this point he is using it as an excuse not to practice.

When he first hurt it, he was coming into the games smoking hot, and there were ZERO problems with the ankle during the games. Now, after a few bad performances his ankle has "suddenly" gotten worse? Nonsense.

It's tough for me as I am lucky enough to have a deep bench of WRs in a start 3 WR league: Plax, Holt, Holmes, Welker, Marshall. I've been thinking that Plax v. Det was a no-brainer start, but it's going to be hard to sit Welker, Marshall, and Holmes for Plax. Of course, the last time I benched Plax (after first questionable injury report), Plax had a big game.

Plaxico Burress has gritted his teeth and played through a painful ankle injury all season. But it's clearly getting worse.

One day after he was held to an ineffective four catches for 24 yards in a 31-20 loss to Dallas, Burress said his right ankle felt "probably the worst it's felt" all season - amazing since it's been bothering him since he first sprained it on Aug. 2.

"It seems like its getting worse," Burress said yesterday. "All I can do is keep getting treatment and rehab. That's really all I can do about it."

Burress has caught just 11 passes for 81 yards and no touchdowns in the last three games (though one game was played in sloppy conditions at London's Wembley Stadium). In the first six games, he was averaging five catches for 84.5 yards and 1.3 touchdowns.

Tom Coughlin conceded Burress' ankle injury is hurting his production. "I would think that certainly has a lot to do with it," Coughlin said.

Burress said he has no intention of sitting out a game.

"I don't think it is going to get better," Burress said. "It's just something I have to play with for a little while. I'll be glad when it's all over and I can rest it and get it healthy."

well this might clear up his no show sunday vs dallas.....

QB Eli Manning was not at his best, completing 23 of 34 passes for 236 yards and one TD with two picks. TE Jeremy Shockey caught 12 for 129 yards and a touchdown, but WR Plaxico Burress was held to four catches for 24 yards, all in the first half. No one would comment as to whether his constant ankle sprain was at fault, although he did say he came down "badly" on it after his first catch.

:goodposting:

As a Plax owner, I would love to believe this as a true statement. However, I unfortunately see the situation as after his ankle has gotten worse, his performance has suddenly dropped off.

The ankle looked pretty good when he was at the MSU-UM game on the bye week, running up and down the sidelines, jumping up and down like a madman. Maybe he reinjured it at that game.

So does anyone think Shockey will become Eli's go to guy now?
No but it did seems so last week. Also, Plax has started off poorly all year and his 2nd half numbers are terrific. I could definitely "see" Coughlin and Gilbride deciding Shockey was the matchup to continue to exploit in their halftime adjustments.I don't see any new news in the OP. He is always sore the day after the game. He actually practiced last week (one or two days)so I'm figuring this is how he gets out of practice some more. I can't stand that about him so maybe....
