Plaxico Burress a no-show with NY Giants (1 Viewer)

NFL | Burress May Seek One-year Deal - from www.KFFL.com

Wed, 9 Mar 2005 05:37:02 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports free agent WR Plaxico Burress (Steelers) may consider a one-year deal if he does not receive what he believes is a market-value proposal on a long-term deal. Under such a game plan, Burress would then hope to have a big 2005 season and re-enter the free agent market again in 2006.
I like that move by Plax...the best way to back up your talk and prove your market worth is to go out there and prove it.
I like it too. Can be risky, but I respect it.

Now I'll come out and say it. If he is willing to sign a one-year deal, there is no WAY the Steelers should not get involved here. Their window is now - get his #### back into the fold. Let him walk next year.

i think the wilson signing precludes that. its pretty clear from there being no communication between the steelers and plax's agent, and the quick signing of wilson, that there was a firm decision made to not go after plax, no matter the price.

If he is really serious about a one year deal, I hope KC starts taking more of an interest. As strong as the offense is, Plaxico would make it unstopable.

I thought so too, but the Steelers front office said, while being interviewed about the Wilson signing, that they still hoped to re-sign Burress. Now, I am well aware that this may just be so much lip service so as not to ruin the guys reputation while he's angling for a contract, but why say anything at all if you have NO interest in re-signing him?

The Chiefs offense already is pretty much unstoppable. The defense is what sucks rhinoceros putz.

That's what you guys Carl Peterson thought about J. Morton. :wall:
Fixed.FWIW, I wasn't a Chiefs fan back then

I was a Lions fan though...

A one-year deal would be a bold move. I would think Burress would only consider that if a team that otherwise wouldn't have been in the mix was willing to come to the table (i.e., the Vikings, Eagles, etc...)

weird. i had just read that they hadnt contacted him at all during the FA period. i would be fine with plax coming back for one year, but is he gonna throw a hissy fit when he only gets 3 or 4 catches a game again, since this is his money season? i would think it is in his interest to go to a pass-first team where he would be the #1 WR if he wants to parlay this season into a good long term deal.regardless, the vast gulf between plax's valuation of himself, and the NFL GM's valuation of him is one of the best stories this offseason.
