Agreed. He is what he is but he makes some big plays. Without him there to catch Eli's jump balls their offense would be much worse. He's the least of their problems (can't believe I said that...).Burress was one of the few bright spots on that offense this season. I don't care if he mopes, he makes plays -- which is a lot more than can be said for Eli Manning, Shockey, et al.
I don't know how you can assume he isn't making plays. Do you watch him slow down on his routes? Do you know what he is thinking? I remember watching a few weeks ago when the game was on TV and he was open all day and Manning couldn't get it to him. Half the time he wasn't targeted and the rest he was thrown a horrible pass. I think this is the reason you see him "disappear".Burress has skills..no doubt about that, but you can't count on him to be your #1 receiver to "win" you games. How many times does he "disappear" for long stretches during games or makes the critical 1st down on 3rd & long, aTD at the end of a game etc.? That 1 catch last weekend was quite an effort to fight his way to the endzone. How many other plays did he make in that game to help the Giants win? He is just too unpredictable to be the main passing option to design an offense around....just not a winning formula. Now if you have a true/dependable #1 WR like Ward, Tory Holt, CJ, Marvin Harrison etc and your cap can fit Burress into your lineup as the #2 WR to make a few downfield supplemental catches...that is a formula that can work. Burress as #1 WR option ...your in trouble.
Has more to do with Eli than Burress. Burress has been consistantly open all season. Eli has had trouble getting the ball in a position where he can catch it. He's been money in the redzone. One of the best redzone targets in the NFL.Burress has skills..no doubt about that, but you can't count on him to be your #1 receiver to "win" you games. I've seen him win them two games on big plays this season alone. Again, it was Burress, not Manning, who made the big plays.Eli has just been downright afwul. With just about any other NFL QB, Burress would have been lights-out this year.on plaxico TDs, it's more often than not Plax that is making the play than it is eli tossing a great ball.
Agreed. I've seen multiple games where Plax looks frustrated because he's wide open and Manning didn't see him/over/under threw him.I've seen him win them two games on big plays this season alone. After looking at his contract it doesn’t look like his going any place.I agree it would be nice for both Plax and Shockey to hang around and work out with Eli during the offseason. I think Plax and Shockey workout together down in Miami, maybe Eli will go down there for a coupe of weeks and work with them this offseason, since they don’t want to be in New Jersey during the offseason.I don't think Plax is going anywhere. I would like to see he and Shockey stick around this offseason and workout up here with Eli. The reason Toomer and Eli are so effective is they have worked out together the past 2 offseasons. Eli has regressed since Toomer was lost for the year. i'm not saying that's right or wrong, but he lost his "go-to" guy when Toomer went down. The offense is playing terrible right now, but I believe it has more to do with the play calling than anything else. The play calling cost them the games against Philly and Dallas and the offense just plain sucked after the first drive last week. I don't think Gilbride has the answer, but I'm willing to see something different. I just can't wait for Coughlin to go after this year.
