If it were serious he wouldn't have "spent most of the morning session sitting at a table between practice fields with his right ankle wrapped and elevated." Nothing to see here, he's got 5 1/2 weeks to ice it down.

Either it's so minor that it's not worth reporting or so bad they are making sure before they announce it.

From the Giants web-site,Q&A with Coughlin

Q: What happened to Plaxico Burress?

A: Ankle. I don’t think it’s too much, but he couldn’t get going this morning so they held him. But it’s ankle.

Q: Is he likely to practice this afternoon?

A: I don’t know, we’ll see. I’m not sure what we’re going to find out when we get in here.

Q: Are you planning on running any more tests on him?

A: They’re probably going to put their hands on him. I don’t know, I can’t comment on that. They may run through every test known to man. He didn’t even get started today, so I don’t think it was anything…Ronnie (Barnes) called it something, but it’s ankle.

IT'S NOT A TOOMER!

After finishing his lunch, Burress said his ankle was, "A little sore, nothing to get overly excited about. I just woke up this morning, it was a little sore. It just swelled up overnight." Burress added that he told his trainers he couldn't practice this morning and has no idea whether he'll be able to practice this afternoon. No tests have been run on his ankle, though Burress said it is being treated. He walked to lunch without a noticeable limp. Coughlin was vague when asked about the injury after practice, but didn't seem to believe it was anything serious. "He just couldn't get it started today," he said. When asked whether Burress would be available for the afternoon practice, he said, "We'll see."

Entrenched starters come up with all kinds of injuries to avoid some practice. Would you want to practice in this heat? Plax will be fine.

I'm a med student and recently studied up on ankle sprains.

The two key things I was wondering when I heard the news were 1) how swollen was the ankle, which usually indicates the extent of the damage, and 2) could Burress bear weight on the ankle. It sounds like Burress's ankle was swollen, but there was news that he was walking around without a limp. That tells me that it's very likely that he's okay. When you seriously sprain your ankle, you cannot weight bear on it. That type of injury tends to linger 3-4 weeks. It sounds like he's more in the day-to-day camp.

Burress owners should be hoping it's somewhat serious.

If he misses the first half of the season, maybe he won't disappear again for the second.

same as post 1 no?

if you haven't had the "pleasure" of being in the NY/NJ area in the summer, the humidity is brutal. Last few days have also been ballpark of 100 degrees. I'd bet alot of Giants twist their ankles. I also am pretty sure he missed some TC with the steelers every year for little dings like this. Alot of vets do it.

Giants Thursday injury update, WR Burress returns

Michael Eisen

8/3/2006

Plaxico Burress returned to practice this afternoon and caught the first two passes thrown by Eli Manning in the initial team period

• Jeremy Shockey again missed practice with a mild concussion, but Coughlin said the Pro Bowl tight end swam and did some strength work. “He’ll come back,” Coughlin said. “It’s obviously a difficult thing to go through for the first time, but he’s a tough guy and he’ll work his way back. We’re just going to give him plenty of time.”

• Michael Strahan left practice early with tightness in his back…Rookie receiver Sinorice Moss continues to be sidelined with a quad strain. "He’s missed some very valuable time that he’ll have to make up,” Coughlin said…Linebacker Carlos Emmons missed his second practice in a row with a burner...Safety Gibril Wilson was sidelined this afternoon with a hip flexor...Today's attendance was 870, increasing the camp total to 9,480.
