Player Analysis forum outside of Shark Pool? (1 Viewer)

Tiger Fan

Footballguy
So I looked at the first 50 threads on FBG and bucketed them into 4 groups (FBG, General, Player Analysis, and Strategy.) Player Analysis clearly dominated the first 50 threads with 24.

I think that a lot of good threads don't get enough attention that they deserve b/c there are player analysis threads all over the first page. I constantly find myself frustrated searching for a new strategy or general FF thread b/c there are a bunch of topics about specific players.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not busting on the player threads, but it just seems that b/c there are so many would it be logical to have a separate forum for player analysis, and keep all other Football related threads in the Shark Pool?

FWIW, here's how I bucketed everything:

This time of year, it's all about player analysis.
I realize that, but player analysis continues year round (injuries happen, people get demoted etc. This is the only time of year for draft/auction strategy and other relevant non-player information.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks there could be added value by separating the 2?

I find that the posts in player analysis threads are generally from people who either love the guy or hate the guy.

I would just be concerned about the traffic you would get if you made another seperate forum. Of course you might argue that would be a good thing. ;)

I understand where you're coming from. Having a seperate forum for the player analysis would make sense. That way people could go directly to that forum instead of combing through the sharkpool.

I don't think there should be a separate forum, but I wholeheartedly agree that I'd like to see a whole lot more regarding strategy. Player analysis threads generally are boring to me. I think far too many people discount how much time needs to be invested in strategy versus why player A is better than player B.

Personally I would limit the pool to player analysis and strategy analysis...threads like "ff team names" seem misplaced.

This thread brings up a great point.

Rather than moving half of the threads elsewhere, why not create a new subsection?

Shark Strategies

Thoughts?

very :goodposting: However is it possible that some of the decent strategy threads get lost because people don't see them among the dozens of player analysis thread

No, it's not possible. Anything regarding strategy I catch and I'm never off for more than 24 hours (well, 98% of the time) so I don't think they get lost. I think sometimes that marginal strategy threads get blasted by the vets and people somehow think they need something really special to get one started sometimes.Fred's right though. If we want to make the pool better, we just need to start more of these types of threads. Some of the best ones are those started by staff guys like David Yudkin, Clayton Gray, Doug Drinen, Aaron Rudnicki, Chase and others. There are so many different types of leagues now that more of this discussion should take place. I know for a fact that there are great minds on board here who are reluctant to share certain things because they don't want to share information that can be used against them.

There's only so many variables that can be examined but when you combine them all, there's almost a limitless set of configurations that some of the most intelligent FFers on this site can discuss. Let's get crackin' gents and make this board even better.

I would love to talk more strategy. I started this: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=246784 with the thought that strategy could be discussed without limitations of being about someone's team, etc. Feel free to start a strategy discussion in that thread on any discussion.

Here's a strat for you:

Draft RB WR WR QB RB WR RB WR WR RB TE QB .... DEF K RB WR

There is an insane dropoff from top WRs to mediocrity this year... and a wealth of depth at RB.

A lot of the RB2s drafted I don't even like.

And if you're drafting later in the round, go QB WR WR RB WR RB

grab a Manning/Palmer....

I'm not even kidding....

check out this 12-team 10-round mock employing a few different strategies. I made this the other day for sportsforum.ws ' new '06 collab rankings. It's loaded with my own biases and I played this like a real draft, drafting against myself with each pick.

That's the money strat this year if you ask me...

Draft for your tiers, don't worry about "well this RB is more FP than this WR...."

Look at your drop-offs and maximize your higher-tier picks.

That's an awesome thread wannabee. However, I think some topics need their own thread and discussion.

more than agree. i started that with thoughts that, in the acf, things can be talked that cannot in the shark pool without the "IBTM" police out in full force.I would love to see several threads on strategies.

Start some strategy threads.
I'm not smart enough
BF's right here (we could use more people starting strategy threads) and TF's wrong here (but he's just too modest ;) ).We're not going to separate the Shark Pool out. The SP covers all sorts of fantasy issues, including player analysis and strategy threads. It's nice having everything right here. People have clamored for a subscriber only forum for some time, but we aren't doing that right away either. The issues (strategy and player analysis) are sufficiently enough related that they can all get discussed in the pool.

Strategy is very important for sure, but I think player analysis is still more important. If it's excellent projections and mediocre strategy or the reverse, I want the great projections everytime.

JoeT made a good point about only people that love or hate a guy post in the threads. But I don't see that as a bad thing. It's important to see the guys that hate RB X, because I might learn something valuable from that poster. If I find something that helps me avoid drafting a big bust in the first few rounds, that will make a big impact on my fantasy season. Of course, finding a late round stud is also important, but you can't always control who is available at your pick. Avoiding taking a bust when you're on the clock is always going to trump strategy.

I used to study strategy a bit more, and one area where it really helps is preparing for your draft. I find you can come extremely close to predicting how many of each position will go in each round, and you can predict a large chunk of your roster before the draft.

More threads though about whether WR A in the 3rd and RB Z in the 5th is better than WR B in the 5th and RB Y in the 3rd combines both player analysis and strategy threads, and not coincidentally is very useful to help you dominate your draft.

Here's a strat for you:

Draft RB WR WR WR RB QB RB WR WR RB TE QB .... DEF K RB WR
ML,Start one and we'll talk about it. Please include roster sizes, starting requirements, and which position you might be starting from. Otherwise, it's very difficult to analyze any kind of positional drafting strategy. Actually, I don't know if you even can depending on the talent that falls to you in any given round. But, given what you suggest with RB WR WR WR RB to start, I would say that they may be viable in 12 team, ppr leagues like the WCOFF. WRs rule in that format.

radballs knows what he's talking about. Those three requirements, along with scoring system, really need to be included in any post about strategy (or draft analysis).
